Why Go to Church?
A Churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "Ive gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I cant remember a single one of them. So, I think Im wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all." This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

Ive been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

Church in the Way of Christmas
Why would we feel like its an imposition to go to Church on Christmas Day? How ironic to think of Worshiping Jesus as an interruption to His birthday celebration! It reminds me of a story I heard about a mother who was running furiously from store to store on Christmas Eve trying to get those last-minute gifts. Suddenly she realized shed lost track of her little 3-year-old son. In a panic, she retraced her steps and found him standing with his little nose pressed flatly against a frosty window. He was gazing at a Manger Scene. When he heard his mother call his name, he turned and shouted in innocent glee: Look Mommy! Its JESUS! Baby Jesus is in the hay ! The harried mom grabbed his arm and jerked him away, snapping, We dont have time for all that! Cant you see that Mommys trying to get ready for Christmas!?!

Give Me Three Good Reasons
One sunny Sunday morning, Henry Jones awoke to find his wife standing over him,shaking him by the shoulder. "You have to get up," she urged. "We have to get ready for church. "I dont want to go to church," he replied. "I want to stay in bed. Crossing her arms over her chest, his wife demanded, "Give me three good reasons why you should stay in bed and not go to church." "OK," he answered. "First, I dont get anything out of the service. Second, I dont like the people there. And third, no one there likes me. Now can you give me three good reasons why I should go to church?" His wife responded, "First, it will do you some good. Second, there are people who really do like you, and theyll miss you if you arent there. And third, youre the minister!"

Three Buildings
It is like the man who was stranded all alone on the deserted island who was rescued. His rescuers asked him what the three structures were that he had built on the island. Three buildings seemed perplexing for just one man. He said one was his house, one was his church, and one was where he used to go to church before he got his feelings hurt!
