The Song of Deborah
On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:
"When the princes in Israel take the lead, 2 when the people willingly offer themselves— 2 praise the Lord!
"Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! 3 I will sing to[a] the Lord, I will sing; 3 I will make music to[b] the Lord, the God of Israel.
"O Lord, when you went out from Seir, 4 when you marched from the land of Edom, 4 the earth shook, the heavens poured, 4 the clouds poured down water.
The mountains quaked before the Lord, the One of Sinai, 5 before the Lord, the God of Israel.
"In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, 6 in the days of Jael, the roads were abandoned; 6 travelers took to winding paths.
Village life[c] in Israel ceased, 7 ceased until I,[d] Deborah, arose, 7 arose a mother in Israel.
When they chose new gods, 8 war came to the city gates, 8 and not a shield or spear was seen 8 among forty thousand in Israel.
My heart is with Israel's princes, 9 with the willing volunteers among the people. 9 Praise the Lord!
