The Lord's Case Against Israel
Listen to what the Lord says: 1 "Stand up, plead your case before the mountains; 1 let the hills hear what you have to say.
Hear, O mountains, the Lord's accusation; 2 listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. 2 For the Lord has a case against his people; 2 he is lodging a charge against Israel.
"My people, what have I done to you? 3 How have I burdened you? Answer me.
I brought you up out of Egypt 4 and redeemed you from the land of slavery. 4 I sent Moses to lead you, 4 also Aaron and Miriam.
My people, remember 5 what Balak king of Moab counseled 5 and what Balaam son of Beor answered. 5 Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, 5 that you may know the righteous acts of the Lord."
With what shall I come before the Lord 6 and bow down before the exalted God? 6 Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, 6 with calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, 7 with ten thousand rivers of oil? 7 Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, 7 the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has showed you, O man, what is good. 8 And what does the Lord require of you? 8 To act justly and to love mercy 8 and to walk humbly with your God.
