¹ 1 ¹ A song of ascents.

¹ When the Lord brought back the captives to^[a] restored the fortunes of Zion, ¹ we were like men who dreamed.^[b]

² Our mouths were filled with laughter, ² our tongues with songs of joy. ² Then it was said among the nations, ² "The Lord has done great things for them."

³ The Lord has done great things for us, ³ and we are filled with joy.

⁴ Restore our fortunes,^[c] O Lord, ⁴ like streams in the Negev.

⁵ Those who sow in tears ⁵ will reap with songs of joy.

⁶ He who goes out weeping, ⁶ carrying seed to sow, ⁶ will return with songs of joy, ⁶ carrying sheaves with him.
