Psalms 53

1 1 53:1-6pp — Ps 14:1-7 1 For the director of music. According to mahalath.[a] A maskil[b] of David.

The fool says in his heart, 1 "There is no God." 1 They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; 1 there is no one who does good.

God looks down from heaven 2 on the sons of men 2 to see if there are any who understand, 2 any who seek God.

Everyone has turned away, 3 they have together become corrupt; 3 there is no one who does good, 3 not even one.

Will the evildoers never learn— 4 those who devour my people as men eat bread 4 and who do not call on God?

There they were, overwhelmed with dread, 5 where there was nothing to dread. 5 God scattered the bones of those who attacked you; 5 you put them to shame, for God despised them.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! 6 When God restores the fortunes of his people, 6 let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!
