Translation:

Psalms 78

1 1 A maskil[a] of Asaph.

O my people, hear my teaching; 1 listen to the words of my mouth.

I will open my mouth in parables, 2 I will utter hidden things, things from of old—

what we have heard and known, 3 what our fathers have told us.

We will not hide them from their children; 4 we will tell the next generation 4 the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, 4 his power, and the wonders he has done.

He decreed statutes for Jacob 5 and established the law in Israel, 5 which he commanded our forefathers 5 to teach their children,

so the next generation would know them, 6 even the children yet to be born, 6 and they in turn would tell their children.

Then they would put their trust in God 7 and would not forget his deeds 7 but would keep his commands.

They would not be like their forefathers— 8 a stubborn and rebellious generation, 8 whose hearts were not loyal to God, 8 whose spirits were not faithful to him.
