Revelation 18

The Fall of Babylon

After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. 2 With a mighty voice he shouted: 2 "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! 2 She has become a home for demons 2 and a haunt for every evil[a] spirit, 2 a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.

For all the nations have drunk 3 the maddening wine of her adulteries. 3 The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, 3 and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries."

Then I heard another voice from heaven say: 4 "Come out of her, my people, 4 so that you will not share in her sins, 4 so that you will not receive any of her plagues;

for her sins are piled up to heaven, 5 and God has remembered her crimes.

Give back to her as she has given; 6 pay her back double for what she has done. 6 Mix her a double portion from her own cup.

Give her as much torture and grief 7 as the glory and luxury she gave herself. 7 In her heart she boasts, 7 'I sit as queen; I am not a widow, 7 and I will never mourn.'

Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: 8 death, mourning and famine. 8 She will be consumed by fire, 8 for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
