Zechariah 9

Judgment on Israel's Enemies 1 An Oracle

The word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrach 1 and will rest upon Damascus— 1 for the eyes of men and all the tribes of Israel 1 are on the Lord[a] is on all mankind, / as well as on the tribes of Israel,

and upon Hamath too, which borders on it, 2 and upon Tyre and Sidon, though they are very skillful.

Tyre has built herself a stronghold; 3 she has heaped up silver like dust, 3 and gold like the dirt of the streets.

But the Lord will take away her possessions 4 and destroy her power on the sea, 4 and she will be consumed by fire.

Ashkelon will see it and fear; 5 Gaza will writhe in agony, 5 and Ekron too, for her hope will wither. 5 Gaza will lose her king 5 and Ashkelon will be deserted.

Foreigners will occupy Ashdod, 6 and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

I will take the blood from their mouths, 7 the forbidden food from between their teeth. 7 Those who are left will belong to our God 7 and become leaders in Judah, 7 and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

But I will defend my house 8 against marauding forces. 8 Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, 8 for now I am keeping watch.

The Coming of Zion's King

Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! 9 Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! 9 See, your king[b] comes to you, 9 righteous and having salvation, 9 gentle and riding on a donkey, 9 on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
