Psalms 12

1 1 For the director of music. According to sheminith.[a] A psalm of David. 1 +012:1-8 is numbered 12:2-9 in Hebrew texts.+1

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore; 1 those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.

Everyone lies to their neighbor; 2 they flatter with their lips 2 but harbor deception in their hearts.

May the Lord silence all flattering lips 3 and every boastful tongue—

those who say, 4 "By our tongues we will prevail; 4 our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?"

"Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, 5 I will now arise," says the Lord. 5 "I will protect them from those who malign them."

And the words of the Lord are flawless, 6 like silver purified in a crucible, 6 like gold[b] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe 7 and will protect us forever from the wicked,

who freely strut about 8 while depravity is honored by the human race.
