Psalms 142

1 1 A maskil[a] of David. When he was in the cave. A prayer. 1 +0142:1-7 is numbered 142:2-8 in Hebrew texts.+1

I cry aloud to the Lord; 1 I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy.

I pour out before him my complaint; 2 before him I tell my trouble.

When my spirit grows faint within me, 3 it is you who watch over my way. 3 In the path where I walk 3 people have hidden a snare for me.

Look and see, there is no one at my right hand; 4 no one is concerned for me. 4 I have no refuge; 4 no one cares for my life.

I cry to you, Lord; 5 I say, "You are my refuge, 5 my portion in the land of the living."

Listen to my cry, 6 for I am in desperate need; 6 rescue me from those who pursue me, 6 for they are too strong for me.

Set me free from my prison, 7 that I may praise your name. 7 Then the righteous will gather about me 7 because of your goodness to me.
