Hear ye this word which I Jer. 7:29take up against you, 1 Even a lamentation, O house of Israel.
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: 2 She is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
For thus saith the Lord God; 3 The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, 3 And that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, 3 To the house of Israel.
The call to repentance
For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, 4 Jer. 29:13Seek ye me, Is. 55:3and ye shall live:
But seek not ch. 4:4Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, 5 And pass not to ch. 8:14Beer-sheba: 5 For Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, 5 And Hos. 4:15Beth-el shall come to nought.
Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; 6 Lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, 6 And devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.
Ye who ch. 6:12turn judgment to wormwood, 7 And leave off righteousness in the earth,
Seek him that maketh the Job 9:9seven stars and Orion, 8 And turneth the shadow of death into the morning, 8 Ps. 104:20And maketh the day dark with night: 8 That Job 38:34calleth for the waters of the sea, 8 And poureth them out upon the face of the earth: 8 ch. 4:13The Lord is his name:
That strengtheneth the [a]spoiled against the strong, 9 So that the [b]spoiled shall come against the fortress.
Is. 29:21They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, 10 And they 1 Ki. 22:8abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, 11 And ye take from him burdens of wheat: 11 Mic. 6:15Ye have built houses of hewn stone, 11 But ye shall not dwell in them; 11 Ye have planted [c]pleasant vineyards, 11 But ye shall not drink wine of them.
For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: 12 ch. 2:6They afflict the just, they take [d]a bribe, 12 And they Is. 29:21turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.
Therefore ch. 6:10the prudent shall keep silence in that time; 13 For it is an evil time.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: 14 And so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, Mic. 3:11as ye have spoken.
Rom. 12:9Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: 15 Joel 2:14It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; 16 Wailing shall be in all streets; 16 And they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! 16 And they shall call the husbandman to mourning, 16 And Jer. 9:17such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
And in all vineyards shall be wailing: 17 For Ex. 12:12I will pass through thee, saith the Lord.
The day of the Lord
Is. 5:19;Jer. 17:15Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! 18 To what end is it for you? 18 Joel 2:2The day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
Jer. 48:44As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; 19 Or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? 20 Even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Is. 1:11-16I hate, I despise your feast days, 21 And Lev. 26:31I will not [e]smell in your solemn assemblies.
Is. 66:3;Mic. 6:6,7Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: 22 Neither will I regard the [f]peace offerings of your fat beasts.
Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; 23 For I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
Hos. 6:6;Mic. 6:8But let judgment [g]run down as waters, 24 And righteousness as a mighty stream.
Deut. 32:17;Josh. 24:14;Is. 43:23Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
But ye have borne [h]the tabernacle 1 Ki. 11:33of your Moloch and Chiun your images, 26 The star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity 2 Ki. 17:6beyond Damascus, 27 Saith the Lord, ch. 4:13whose name is The God of hosts.
