Abraham and Abimelech
And Abraham journeyed from ch. 18:1thence toward the south country, and dwelled between ch. 16:7,14Kadesh and Shur, and ch. 26:6sojourned in Gerar.
And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, ch. 12:13;& 26:7She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and ch. 12:15took Sarah.
But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, ch. 18:23wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for ch. 31:7;& 35:5;Ex. 34:24;1 Sam. 25:26,34I also withheld thee from sinning ch. 39:9;Lev. 6:2;Ps. 51:4against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
Now therefore restore the man his wife; 1 Sam. 7:5;2 Ki. 5:11;Job 42:8;Jas. 5:14,15for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, ch. 2:17know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, Num. 16:32,33and all that are thine.
Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, ch. 26:10;Ex. 32:21;Josh. 7:25that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me ch. 34:7that ought not to be done.
And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely ch. 42:18;Ps. 36:1;Prov. 16:6the fear of God is not in this place; and ch. 12:12;& 26:7they will slay me for my wife's sake.
And yet indeed See ch. 11:29she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
And it came to pass, when ch. 12:1,9,11;Heb. 11:8God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, ch. 12:13say of me, He is my brother.
And Abimelech ch. 12:16took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: ch. 26:11behold, he is to thee ch. 24:65a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
So Abraham Job 42:9prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
For the Lord ch. 12:17had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
