1 The doom of Babylon
1 The Jer. 50;& 51burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
2 ch. 18:3Lift ye up a banner Jer. 51:25upon the high mountain, 2 Exalt the voice unto them, ch. 10:32shake the hand, 2 That they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3 I have commanded my sanctified ones, 3 I have also called Joel 3:11my mighty ones for mine anger, 3 Even them that Ps. 149:2rejoice in my highness.
4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, [a]like as of a great people; 4 A tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: 4 The Lord of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5 They come from a far country, from the end of the heaven, 5 Even the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, 5 To destroy the whole land.
6 Howl ye; Zeph. 1:7;Rev. 6:17for the day of the Lord is at hand; 6 Job 31:23;Joel 1:15It shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands [b]be faint, 7 And every man's heart shall melt:
8 And they shall be afraid: Ps. 48:6pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; 8 They shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: 8 They shall [c]be amazed [d]one at another; 8 Their faces shall be as [e]flames.
9 Behold, Mal. 4:1the day of the Lord cometh, 9 Cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, 9 To lay the land desolate: 9 And he shall destroy Ps. 104:35;Prov. 2:22the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: 10 The sun shall be Ezek. 32:7;Joel 2:31;Mat. 24:29;Mark 13:24darkened in his going forth, 10 And the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, 11 And the wicked for their iniquity; 11 ch. 2:17And I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, 11 And will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; 12 Even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Hag. 2:6Therefore I will shake the heavens, 13 And the earth shall remove out of her place, 13 In the wrath of the Lord of hosts, 13 And in Ps. 110:5;Lam. 1:12the day of his fierce anger.
14 And it shall be as the chased roe, 14 And as a sheep that no man taketh up: 14 Jer. 50:16They shall every man turn to his own people, 14 And flee every one into his own land.
15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; 15 And every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
16 Their children also shall be Ps. 137:9;Nah. 3:10;Zech. 14:2dashed to pieces before their eyes; 16 Their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
17 Jer. 51:11;Dan. 5:28Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, 17 Which shall not regard silver; 17 And as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; 18 And they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; 18 Their eye shall not spare children.
19 ch. 14:4And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, 19 The beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, 19 Shall be [f]as when God overthrew Gen. 19:24;Deut. 29:23;Jer. 50:40Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 Jer. 50:3It shall never be inhabited, 20 Neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: 20 Neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; 20 Neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
21 ch. 34:11But [g]wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; 21 And their houses shall be full of [h]doleful creatures; 21 And [i][j]owls shall dwell there, 21 And satyrs shall dance there.
22 And [k]the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their [l]desolate houses, 22 And dragons in their pleasant palaces: 22 Jer. 51:33And her time is near to come, 22 And her days shall not be prolonged.
