An oracle about Ethiopia
Woe ch. 20:4,5;Ezek. 30:4,5,9;Zeph. 2:12;& 3:10to the land shadowing with wings, 1 Which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:
That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, 2 Even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, 2 Go, ye swift messengers, 2 To ver. 7a nation [a]scattered and peeled, 2 To a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; 2 [b][c]A nation meted out and trodden down, 2 [d]Whose land the rivers have spoiled.
All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, 3 See ye, ch. 5:26when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; 3 And when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.
For so the Lord said unto me, 4 I will take my rest, and I will [e]consider in my dwelling place 4 Like a clear heat [f]upon herbs, 4 And like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.
For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, 5 And the sour grape is ripening in the flower, 5 He shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, 5 And take away and cut down the branches.
They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, 6 And to the beasts of the earth: 6 And the fowls shall summer upon them, 6 And all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.
In that time See Ps. 68:31;& 72:10;ch. 16:1;Zeph. 3:10;Mal. 1:11shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts 7 Of a people ver. 2[g]scattered and peeled, 7 And from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; 7 A nation meted out and trodden under foot, 7 Whose land the rivers have spoiled, 7 To the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.
