Judgment for universal sin
Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, 1 And [a]turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
And it shall be, as with the people, so with the Hos. 4:9[b]priest; 2 As with the servant, so with his master; 2 As with the maid, so with her mistress; 2 Ezek. 7:12,13As with the buyer, so with the seller; 2 As with the lender, so with the borrower; 2 As with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: 3 For the Lord hath spoken this word.
The earth mourneth and fadeth away, 4 The world languisheth and fadeth away, 4 [c]The haughty people of the earth do languish.
Gen. 3:17;Num. 35:33The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; 5 Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, 5 Broken the everlasting covenant.
Therefore hath Mal. 4:6the curse devoured the earth, 6 And they that dwell therein are desolate: 6 Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, 6 And few men left.
ch. 16:8,9;Joel 1:10,12The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, 7 All the merryhearted do sigh.
The mirth Jer. 7:34;& 16:9;& 25:10;Ezek. 26:13;Hos. 2:11;Rev. 18:22of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, 8 The joy of the harp ceaseth.
They shall not drink wine with a song; 9 Strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
The city of confusion is broken down: 10 Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
There is a crying for wine in the streets; 11 All joy is darkened, 11 The mirth of the land is gone.
In the city is left desolation, 12 And the gate is smitten with destruction.
When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, 13 ch. 17:5,6There shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, 13 And as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing, 14 For the majesty of the Lord, they shall cry aloud from the sea.
Wherefore glorify ye the Lord in the [d]fires, 15 Even Mal. 1:11the name of the Lord God of Israel in the isles of the sea.
From the [e]uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. 16 But I said, [f]My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! 16 Jer. 5:11The treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; 16 Yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
See Jer. 48:43,44Fear, and the pit, and the snare, 17 Are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; 18 And he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: 18 For Gen. 7:11the windows from on high are open, 18 And Ps. 18:7the foundations of the earth do shake.
Jer. 4:23The earth is utterly broken down, 19 The earth is clean dissolved, 19 The earth is moved exceedingly.
The earth shall ch. 19:14reel to and fro like a drunkard, 20 And shall be removed like a cottage; 20 And the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; 20 And it shall fall, and not rise again.
And it shall come to pass in that day, 21 That the Lord shall [g]punish the host of the high ones that are on high, 21 Ps. 76:12And the kings of the earth upon the earth.
And they shall be gathered together, [h]as prisoners are gathered in the [i]pit, 22 And shall be shut up in the prison, 22 And after many days shall they be [j]visited.
Then the ch. 13:10;& 60:19;Ezek. 32:7;Joel 2:31;& 3:15moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, 23 When the Lord of hosts shall Rev. 19:4,6reign 23 In Heb. 12:22mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, 23 And [k]before his ancients gloriously.
Praise the Lord
