The speech of Job
After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day.
Jer. 20:14Let the day perish wherein I was born, 3 And the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived.
Let that day be darkness; 4 Let not God regard it from above, 4 Neither let the light shine upon it.
Let darkness and ch. 10:21;Jer. 13:16;Amos 5:8the shadow of death [b]stain it; 5 Let a cloud dwell upon it; 5 [c]Let the blackness of the day terrify it.
As for that night, let darkness seize upon it; 6 [d]Let it not be joined unto the days of the year, 6 Let it not come into the number of the months.
Lo, let that night be solitary, 7 Let no joyful voice come therein.
Let them curse it that curse the day, 8 Jer. 9:17Who are ready to raise up [e]their mourning.
Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; 9 Let it look for light, but have none; 9 Neither let it see [f]the dawning of the day:
Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, 10 Nor hid sorrow from mine eyes.
ch. 10:18Why died I not from the womb? 11 Why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?
Gen. 30:3Why did the knees prevent me? 12 Or why the breasts that I should suck?
For now should I have lien still and been quiet, 13 I should have slept: then had I been at rest,
With kings and counsellers of the earth, 14 Which ch. 15:28built desolate places for themselves;
Or with princes that had gold, 15 Who filled their houses with silver:
Or Ps. 58:8as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; 16 As infants which never saw light.
There the wicked cease from troubling; 17 And there the [g]weary be at rest.
There the prisoners rest together; 18 ch. 39:7They hear not the voice of the oppressor.
The small and great are there; 19 And the servant is free from his master.
Jer. 20:18Wherefore is light given to him that is in misery, 20 And life unto the 2 Ki. 4:27bitter in soul;
Which Rev. 9:6[h]long for death, but it cometh not; 21 And dig for it more than Prov. 2:4for hid treasures;
Which rejoice exceedingly, 22 And are glad, when they can find the grave?
Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, 23 Lam. 3:7And whom God hath hedged in?
For my sighing cometh [i]before I eat, 24 And my roarings are poured out like the waters.
For [j]the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, 25 And that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; 26 Yet trouble came.
