Joel 1

The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

The plague of insects

Hear this, ye old men, 2 And give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. 2 ch. 2:2Hath this been in your days, 2 Or even in the days of your fathers?

Ps. 78:4Tell ye your children of it, 3 And let your children tell their children, 3 And their children another generation.

Deut. 28:38[a]That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; 4 And that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; 4 And that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; 5 And howl, all ye drinkers of wine, 5 Because of the new wine, Is. 32:10for it is cut off from your mouth.

For Prov. 30:23a nation is come up upon my land, 6 Strong, and without number, 6 Rev. 9:8Whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, 6 And he hath the cheek-teeth of a great lion.

He hath Is. 5:6laid my vine waste, 7 And [b]barked my fig tree: 7 He hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; 7 The branches thereof are made white.

Is. 22:12Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for Prov. 2:17;Jer. 3:4the husband of her youth.

ch. 2:14The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; 9 The priests, the Lord's ministers, mourn.

The field is wasted, Jer. 12:11the land mourneth; 10 For the corn is wasted, Is. 24:7the new wine is [c]dried up, the oil languisheth.

Jer. 14:3,4Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, 11 For the wheat and for the barley; 11 Because the harvest of the field is perished.

ver. 10The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; 12 The pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, 12 Even all the trees of the field, are withered: 12 Because Is. 24:11;Jer. 48:33joy is withered away from the sons of men.

Jer. 4:8Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: 13 Howl, ye ministers of the altar: 13 Come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God; 13 For the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

2 Chr. 20:3Sanctify ye a fast, call Lev. 23:36a [d]solemn assembly, 14 Gather the elders and 2 Chr. 20:13all the inhabitants of the land 14 Into the house of the Lord your God, 14 And cry unto the Lord,

Jer. 30:7Alas for the day! for Is. 13:6,9the day of the Lord is at hand, 15 And as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, 16 Yea, See Deut. 12:6,7joy and gladness from the house of our God?

The [e]seed is rotten under their clods, 17 The garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; 17 For the corn is withered.

How do Hos. 4:3the beasts groan! 18 The herds of cattle are perplexed, 18 Because they have no pasture; 18 Yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

O Lord, Ps. 50:15to thee will I cry: 19 For Jer. 9:10the fire hath devoured the [f]pastures of the wilderness, 19 And the flame hath burnt all the trees of the field.

The beasts of the field Job 38:41;Ps. 104:21cry also unto thee: 20 For 1 Ki. 17:7the rivers of waters are dried up, 20 And the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

The coming day of the Lord
