Proverbs 26

As snow in summer, 1 Sam. 12:17and as rain in harvest, 1 So honour is not seemly for a fool.

As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, 2 So Deut. 23:5the curse causeless shall not come.

Ps. 32:9A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, 3 And a rod for the fools' back.

Answer not a fool according to his folly, 4 Lest thou also be like unto him.

Mat. 16:1-4Answer a fool according to his folly, 5 Lest he be wise in [a]his own conceit.

He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool 6 Cutteth off the feet, and drinketh [b]damage.

The legs of the lame [c]are not equal: 7 So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

[d]As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, 8 So is he that giveth honour to a fool.

As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, 9 So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

[e]The great God that formed all things 10 Both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

2 Pet. 2:22As a dog returneth to his vomit, 11 Ex. 8:15So a fool [f]returneth to his folly.

Rev. 3:17Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? 12 There is more hope of a fool than of him.

The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; 13 A lion is in the streets.

As the door turneth upon his hinges, 14 So doth the slothful upon his bed.

The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; 15 [g]It grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit 16 Than seven men that can render a reason.

He that passeth by, and [h]meddleth with strife belonging not to him, 17 Is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

As a mad man who casteth [i]firebrands, arrows, and death,

So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, 19 And saith, Eph. 5:4Am not I in sport?

[j]Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: 20 So where there is no [k]talebearer, the strife [l]ceaseth.

ch. 15:18As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; 21 So is a contentious man to kindle strife.

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, 22 And they go down into the [m]innermost parts of the belly.

Burning lips and a wicked heart 23 Are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

He that hateth [n]dissembleth with his lips, 24 And layeth up deceit within him;

Ps. 28:3When he [o]speaketh fair, believe him not: 25 For there are seven abominations in his heart.

Whose [p]hatred is covered by deceit, 26 His wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

Ps. 7:15Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: 27 And he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; 28 And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
