A cry to God for help
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
Hold Ps. 83:1not thy peace, O God of my praise;
For the mouth of the wicked and the [a]mouth of the deceitful [b]are opened against me: 2 They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
They compassed me about also with words of hatred; 3 And fought against me Ps. 35:7;& 69:4;John 15:25without a cause.
For my love they are my adversaries: 4 But I give myself unto prayer.
And Ps. 35:7,12;& 38:20they have rewarded me evil for good, 5 And hatred for my love.
Set thou a wicked man over him: 6 And let Zech. 3:1[c]Satan stand at his right hand.
When he shall be judged, let him [d]be condemned: 7 And Prov. 28:9let his prayer become sin.
Let his days be few; 8 And Acts 1:20let another take his [e]office.
Ex. 22:24Let his children be fatherless, 9 And his wife a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: 10 Let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.
Job 5:5;& 18:9Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; 11 And let the strangers spoil his labour.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: 12 Neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.
Job 18:19;Ps. 37:28Let his posterity be cut off; 13 And in the generation following let their Prov. 10:7name be blotted out.
Ex. 20:5Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; 14 And let not the sin of his mother Neh. 4:5;Jer. 18:23be blotted out.
Let them be before the Lord continually, 15 That he may Job 18:17;Ps. 34:16cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, 16 But persecuted the poor and needy man, 16 That he might even slay the Ps. 34:18broken in heart.
Prov. 14:14;Ezek. 35:6As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: 17 As he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, 18 So let it Num. 5:22come [f]into his bowels like water, 18 And like oil into his bones.
Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, 19 And for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.
Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, 20 And of them that speak evil against my soul.
But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name's sake: 21 Because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.
For I am poor and needy, 22 And my heart is wounded within me.
I am gone Ps. 102:11like the shadow when it declineth: 23 I am tossed up and down as the locust.
My Heb. 12:12knees are weak through fasting; 24 And my flesh faileth of fatness.
I became also Ps. 22:6,7a reproach unto them: 25 When they looked upon me Mat. 27:39they shaked their heads.
Help me, O Lord my God: 26 O save me according to thy mercy:
Job 37:7That they may know that this is thy hand; 27 That thou, Lord, hast done it.
2 Sam. 16:11Let them curse, but bless thou: 28 When they arise, let them be ashamed; but let Is. 65:14thy servant rejoice.
Ps. 35:26;& 132:18Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, 29 And let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.
I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; 30 Yea, Ps. 35:18;& 111:1I will praise him among the multitude.
For Ps. 16:8;& 73:23he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, 31 To save him [g]from those that condemn his soul.
