Psalms 137

Captives in Babylon

By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, 1 When we remembered Zion.

We hanged our harps 2 Upon the willows in the midst thereof.

For there they that carried us away captive required of us [a]a song; 3 And they that Ps. 79:1[b]wasted us required of us mirth, 3 Saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

How shall we sing the Lord's song 4 In a [c]strange land?

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, 5 Let my right hand forget her cunning.

If I do not remember thee, 6 Let my Ezek. 3:26tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; 6 If I prefer not Jerusalem above [d]my chief joy.

Remember, O Lord, Jer. 49:7;Lam. 4:22;Ezek. 25:12;Obad. 10the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; 7 Who said, [e]Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.

O daughter of Babylon, Is. 13:1,6;Jer. 25:12who art to be [f]destroyed; 8 Happy shall he be, Jer. 50:15;Rev. 18:6[g]that rewardeth thee 8 As thou hast served us.

Happy shall he be that taketh 9 And Is. 13:16dasheth thy little ones against [h]the stones.

The Lord a faithful God
