Psalms 142

1 The prisoner's prayer

1 Ps. 57, title[a]Maschil of David; A Prayer 1 Sam. 22:1when he was in the cave.

1 I cried unto the Lord with my voice; 1 With my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.

2 Is. 26:16I poured out my complaint before him; 2 I shewed before him my trouble.

3 Ps. 143:4When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, 3 Then thou knewest my path. 3 Ps. 140:5In the way wherein I walked 3 Have they privily laid a snare for me.

4 Ps. 69:20[b]I looked on my right hand, and beheld, 4 But Ps. 31:11there was no man that would know me: 4 Refuge [c]failed me; 4 [d]No man cared for my soul.

5 I cried unto thee, O Lord: 5 I said, Ps. 46:1Thou art my refuge 5 And Lam. 3:24my portion Ps. 27:13in the land of the living.

6 Attend unto my cry; 6 For I am Ps. 116:6brought very low: 6 Deliver me from my persecutors; 6 For they are stronger than I.

7 Bring my soul out of prison, 7 That I may praise thy name: 7 Ps. 34:2The righteous shall compass me about; 7 Ps. 13:6For thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
