Deliverance from the wicked
A Prayer of David.
Hear [a]the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, 1 Give ear unto my prayer, that goeth [b]not out of feigned lips.
Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; 2 Let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; 3 Job 23:10Thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; 3 I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips 4 I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
Ps. 119:133Hold up my goings in thy paths, 5 That my footsteps [c]slip not.
Ps. 116:2I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: 6 Incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou [d]that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee 7 From those that rise up against them.
Keep me as the apple of the eye, 8 Hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
From the wicked [e]that oppress me, 9 From [f]my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
They are inclosed in their own fat: 10 With their mouth they 1 Sam. 2:3speak proudly.
They have now compassed us in our steps: 11 They have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;
[g]Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, 12 And as it were a young lion [h]lurking in secret places.
Arise, O Lord, [i]disappoint him, cast him down: 13 Deliver my soul from the wicked, [j]which is thy sword:
[k]From men which are thy hand, O Lord, 14 From men of the world, which have their portion in this life, 14 And whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: 14 [l]They are full of children, 14 And leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
As for me, 1 John 3:2I will behold thy face in righteousness: 15 Ps. 4:6,7;& 16:11I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
