Psalms 22

A cry of anguish

To the chief Musician upon [a]Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David.

My Mark 15:34God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 1 Why art thou so far [b]from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; 2 And in the night season, and [c]am not silent.

But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the Deut. 10:21praises of Israel.

Our fathers trusted in thee: 4 They trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

They cried unto thee, and were delivered: 5 Is. 49:23They trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

But I am Job 25:6a worm, and no man; 6 Is. 53:3A reproach of men, and despised of the people.

Mat. 27:39All they that see me laugh me to scorn: 7 They [d]shoot out the lip, Job 16:4they shake the head, saying,

Mat. 27:43[e]He trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: 8 Ps. 91:14Let him deliver him, [f]seeing he delighted in him.

Ps. 71:6But thou art he that took me out of the womb: 9 Thou [g]didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.

I was cast upon thee from the womb: 10 Is. 46:3Thou art my God from my mother's belly.

Be not far from me; for trouble is near; 11 For there is [h]none to help.

Ps. 68:30Many bulls have compassed me: 12 Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

Lam. 2:16They [i]gaped upon me with their mouths, 13 As a ravening and a roaring lion.

I am poured out like water, 14 Dan. 5:6And all my bones are [j]out of joint: 14 My heart is like wax; 14 It is melted in the midst of my bowels.

Prov. 17:22My strength is dried up like a potsherd; 15 And John 19:28my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; 15 And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

For dogs have compassed me: 16 The assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: 16 Mat. 27:35They pierced my hands and my feet.

I may tell all my bones: 17 Luke 23:27,35They look and stare upon me.

Luke 23:34They part my garments among them, 18 And cast lots upon my vesture.

But be not thou far from me,Lord: 19 O my strength, haste thee to help me.

Deliver my soul from the sword; 20 Ps. 35:17[k]My darling [l]from the power of the dog.

2 Tim. 4:17Save me from the lion's mouth: 21 Is. 34:7For thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

A song of praise

Heb. 2:12I will declare thy name unto Rom. 8:29my brethren: 22 In the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.

Ps. 135:19Ye that fear the Lord, praise him; 23 All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; 23 And fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; 24 Neither hath he hid his face from him; 24 But Heb. 5:7when he cried unto him, he heard.

Ps. 35:18My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: 25 Eccl. 5:4I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

The meek shall eat and be satisfied: 26 They shall praise the Lord that seek him: 26 Your heart shall live for ever.

All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the Lord: 27 And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

Mat. 6:13For the kingdom is the Lord's: 28 And he is the governor among the nations.

Ps. 45:12All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: 29 Is. 26:19All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: 29 And none can keep alive his own soul.

A seed shall serve him; 30 Ps. 87:6It shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

Ps. 78:6They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness 31 Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.
