Psalms 45

The king's marriage

To the chief Musician Ps. 69, title;& 80, titleupon Shoshannim, for the sons of Korah, [a]Maschil, A Song of loves.

My heart [b]is inditing a good matter: 1 I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: 1 My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

Thou art fairer than the children of men: 2 Luke 4:22Grace is poured into thy lips: 2 Therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

Gird thy Is. 49:2;Heb. 4:12;Rev. 1:16sword upon thy thigh, Is. 9:6most mighty, 3 With thy glory and thy majesty.

Rev. 6:2And in thy majesty [c]ride prosperously 4 Because of truth and meekness and righteousness; 4 And thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

Thine arrows are sharp 5 In the heart of the king's enemies; 5 Whereby the people fall under thee.

Ps. 93:2;Heb. 1:8Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: 6 The sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

Ps. 33:5Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: 7 Therefore Is. 61:1[d]God, thy God, 1 Ki. 1:39;Ps. 79:4hath anointed thee 7 With the oil Ps. 21:6of gladness above thy fellows.

Sol. 1:3All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, 8 Out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

Kings' daughters were among thy honourable women: 9 1 Ki. 2:19Upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; 10 See Deut. 21:13Forget also thine own people, and thy father's house;

So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: 11 Ps. 95:6;Is. 54:5For he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; 12 Even Is. 49:23the rich among the people shall intreat [e]thy favour.

Is. 61:10The king's daughter is all glorious within: 13 Her clothing is of wrought gold.

Sol. 1:4She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: 14 The virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: 15 They shall enter into the king's palace.

Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, 16 1 Pet. 2:9;Rev. 1:6;& 20:6Whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: 17 Therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
