The Lord will sustain
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David.
Give ear to my prayer, O God; 1 And hide not thyself from my supplication.
Attend unto me, and hear me: 2 I Is. 38:14mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;
Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: 3 2 Sam. 16:7,8For they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.
Ps. 116:3My heart is sore pained within me: 4 And the terrors of death are fallen upon me.
Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, 5 And horror hath [a]overwhelmed me.
And I said, O that I had wings like a dove, 6 For then would I fly away, and be at rest.
Lo, then would I wander far off, 7 And remain in the wilderness. Selah.
I would hasten my escape 8 From the windy storm and tempest.
Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: 9 For I have seen Jer. 6:7violence and strife in the city.
Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: 10 Mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.
Wickedness is in the midst thereof: 11 Deceit and guile depart not from her streets.
Ps. 41:9For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: 12 Neither was it he that hated me that did Ps. 35:26magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
But it was thou, [b]a man mine equal, 13 2 Sam. 15:12;Ps. 41:9;Jer. 9:4My guide, and mine acquaintance.
[c]We took sweet counsel together, 14 And Ps. 42:4walked unto the house of God in company.
Let death seize upon them, 15 And let them Num. 16:30go down quick into [d]hell: 15 For wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.
As for me, I will call upon God; 16 And the Lord shall save me.
Luke 18:1Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: 17 And he shall hear my voice.
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: 18 For 2 Chr. 32:7,8there were many with me.
God shall hear, and afflict them, 19 Deut. 33:27Even he that abideth of old. Selah. 19 [e]Because they have no changes, 19 Therefore they fear not God.
He hath Acts 12:1put forth his hands against such as Ps. 7:4be at peace with him: 20 [f]He hath broken his covenant.
Ps. 28:3The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: 21 His words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.
Ps. 37:5;Mat. 6:25Cast thy [g]burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: 22 Ps. 37:24He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: 23 Ps. 5:6[h]Bloody and deceitful men Job 15:32;Prov. 10:27;Eccl. 7:17[i]shall not live out half their days; 23 But I will trust in thee.
A song for the distressed
