God's covenant with David
[a]Maschil of 1 Ki. 4:31;1 Chr. 2:6Ethan the Ezrahite.
Ps. 101:1I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: 1 With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness ver. 4;Ps. 119:90[b]to all generations.
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: 2 Ps. 119:89Thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
1 Ki. 8:16;1 Chr. 28:4I have made a covenant with my chosen, 3 I have 2 Sam. 7:13sworn unto David my servant,
Thy seed will I stablish for ever, 4 And build up thy throne Luke 1:33to all generations. Selah.
And Ps. 19:1the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: 5 Thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? 6 Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?
Ps. 76:7,11God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, 7 And to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.
O Lord God of hosts, 8 Who is a strong Lord like unto thee? 8 Or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
Ps. 65:7Thou rulest the raging of the sea: 9 When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
Ps. 87:4Thou hast broken [c]Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; 10 Thou hast scattered thine enemies [d]with thy strong arm.
Gen. 1:1The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: 11 As for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
The north and the south thou hast created them: 12 Josh. 19:22Tabor and Josh. 12:1Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
Thou hast [e]a mighty arm: 13 Strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
Justice and judgment are the [f]habitation of thy throne: 14 Mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Blessed is the people that know the Ps. 98:6joyful sound: 15 They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: 16 And in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
For thou art the glory of their strength: 17 And in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
For Ps. 47:9[g] and our king is of the Holy One of Israelthe Lord is our defence; 18 And the Holy One of Israel is our king.
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, 19 And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; 19 I have exalted one 1 Ki. 11:34chosen out of the people.
1 Sam. 16:1I have found David my servant; 20 With my holy oil have I anointed him:
Ps. 80:17With whom my hand shall be established: 21 Mine arm also shall strengthen him.
2 Sam. 7:10The enemy shall not exact upon him; 22 Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
2 Sam. 7:9And I will beat down his foes before his face, 23 And plague them that hate him.
But 2 Sam. 7:15my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: 24 And in my name shall his horn be exalted.
I will set his hand also in the sea, 25 And his right hand in the rivers.
He shall cry unto me, Thou art 1 Chr. 22:10my Father, 26 My God, and 2 Sam. 22:47the rock of my salvation.
Also I will make him Col. 1:15my firstborn, 27 Num. 24:7Higher than the kings of the earth.
Is. 55:3My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, 28 And my covenant shall stand fast with him.
His seed also will I make to endure for ever, 29 Jer. 33:17And his throne Deut. 11:21as the days of heaven.
2 Sam. 7:14If his children Ps. 119:53;Jer. 9:13forsake my law, 30 And walk not in my judgments;
If they [h]break my statutes, 31 And keep not my commandments;
Then 2 Sam. 7:14will I visit their transgression with the rod, 32 And their iniquity with stripes.
2 Sam. 7:15Nevertheless my lovingkindness [i]will I not utterly take from him, 33 Nor suffer my faithfulness [j]to fail.
My covenant will I not break, 34 Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
Once have I sworn Amos 4:2by my holiness 35 [k]That I will not lie unto David.
Luke 1:33His seed shall endure for ever, 36 And his throne Ps. 72:17as the sun before me.
It shall be established for ever as the moon, 37 And as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
But thou hast 1 Chr. 28:9cast off and Deut. 32:19abhorred, 38 Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: 39 Lam. 5:16Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; 40 Thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
All that pass by the way spoil him: 41 He is Ps. 44:13a reproach to his neighbours.
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; 42 Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, 43 And hast not made him to stand in the battle.
Thou hast made his [l]glory to cease, 44 And cast his throne down to the ground.
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: 45 Thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
Ps. 79:5How long, Lord? wilt thou hide thyself, for ever? 46 Shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Job 7:7Remember how short my time is: 47 Wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
Ps. 49:9What man is he that liveth, and shall not Heb. 11:5see death? 48 Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, 49 Which thou 2 Sam. 7:15swarest unto David Ps. 54:5in thy truth?
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; 50 Ps. 69:9,19How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;
Ps. 74:22Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Lord; 51 Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
Ps. 41:13Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
Eternal God and mortal man
