1 The woman on the beast
1 And there came ch. 21:9one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; ch. 16:19I will shew unto thee the judgment of Nah. 3:4;ch. 19:2the great whore Jer. 51:13that sitteth upon many waters:
2 ch. 18:3With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and Jer. 51:7;ch. 18:3the inhabiters of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit ch. 12:6,14into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit ch. 12:3upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of ch. 13:1names of blasphemy, ver. 9having seven heads and ver. 12ten horns.
4 And the woman ch. 18:12was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, Dan. 11:38and [a]decked with gold and precious stone and pearls, Jer. 51:7;ch. 18:6having a golden cup in her hand ch. 14:8full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, 2 Thes. 2:7MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF [b]HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw ch. 18:24the woman drunken ch. 13:15with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of ch. 6:9,10the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and ch. 11:7shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and ch. 13:10go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth ch. 13:3shall wonder, ch. 13:8whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And ch. 13:18here is the mind which hath wisdom. ch. 13:1The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, ver. 8and goeth into perdition.
12 And Dan. 7:20;Zech. 1:18the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 ch. 16:14These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: Deut. 10:17;1 Tim. 6:15;ch. 19:16for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: Jer. 50:44;ch. 14:4and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, Is. 8:7The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, ch. 13:7are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, Jer. 50:41;ch. 16:12these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate Ezek. 16:37;ch. 18:16and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and ch. 18:8burn her with fire.
17 2 Thes. 2:11For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, ch. 10:7until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest ch. 16:19is that great city, ch. 12:4which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
