The Lord Will Judge Jerusalem
The Lord says, "Ariel, I will surround you. 2 Jerusalem, I will get ready to attack you. 2 Your people will sob. 2 They will sing songs of sadness. 2 I will make you like the front of an altar 2 that is covered with blood.
You will be brought down to the grave. 4 You will speak from deep down inside the ground. 4 Your words will be barely heard out of the dust. 4 Your voice will sound like the voice of a ghost 4 coming from under the ground. 4 Your words will sound like a whisper out of the dust."
Jerusalem, all of your enemies will become like fine dust. 5 Their terrifying armies will become like straw 5 that the wind blows away. 5 All of a sudden, in an instant, 6 the Lord who rules over all will come. 6 He will come with thunder, earthquakes and a lot of noise. 6 He'll bring windstorms and rainstorms with him. 6 He'll send a blazing fire that will burn everything up.
Armies from all of the nations will fight against Ariel. 7 They will attack it and its fort. 7 They'll surround it completely. 7 But suddenly those armies will disappear like a dream. 7 They will vanish like a vision in the night.
They will be like hungry people who dream they are eating. 8 But when they wake up, they are still hungry. 8 They will be like thirsty people who dream they are drinking. 8 But when they wake up, they are weak. 8 Their thirst hasn't been satisfied. 8 In the same way, the armies from all of the nations 8 that fight against Mount Zion will disappear.
For you, this whole vision is like words that are sealed up in a scroll. Suppose you give it to people who can read. And suppose you say to them, "Please read this for us." Then they'll answer, "We can't. It's sealed up." 12 Or suppose you give the scroll to people who can't read. And suppose you say, "Please read this for us." Then they'll answer, "We don't know how to read."
The Lord says, 13 "These people worship me only with their words. 13 They honor me by what they say. 13 But their hearts are far away from me. 13 Their worship doesn't mean anything to me. 13 They teach nothing but human rules.
So once more I will shock these people 14 with many wonderful acts. 14 I will destroy the wisdom of those who think they are so wise. 14 I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart."
They turn everything upside down. 16 How silly they are to think that potters are like the clay they work with! 16 Can what is made say to the one who made it, 16 "You didn't make me"? 16 Can the pot say to the potter, 16 "You don't know anything"?
Without any proof, they claim that a person is guilty. 21 In court they try to trap 21 the one who speaks up for others. 21 By using dishonest witnesses they keep those who aren't guilty 21 from being treated fairly.
You will see your children living among you. 23 I myself will give you those children. 23 Then you will honor my name. 23 You will recognize how holy I am. 23 I am the Holy One of Jacob. 23 You will have great respect for me. 23 I am the God of Israel.
