Israel Is Stubborn
People of Jacob, listen to me. 1 You are called by the name of Israel. 1 You come from the family line of Judah. 1 You take oaths in the name of the Lord. 1 You pray to Israel's God. 1 But you aren't honest. 1 You don't mean what you say.
So I told you those things long ago. 5 Before they happened I announced them to you. 5 I did it so you would not be able to say, 5 'My statues of gods did them. 5 My wooden and metal gods made them happen.'
You have heard me tell you those things. 6 Think about all of them. 6 Won't you admit they have taken place? 6 "From now on I will tell you about new things that will happen. 6 I have not made them known to you before.
You have not heard or understood what I said. 8 Your ears have been plugged up for a long time. 8 I knew very well that you would turn against me. 8 From the day you were born, you have refused to obey me.
Israel Is Set Free
"People of Israel, come together and listen to me. 14 What other god has said ahead of time that certain things would happen? 14 I have chosen Cyrus. 14 He will carry out my plans against Babylon. 14 He will use his powerful arm against the Babylonians.
"Come close and listen to me. 16 "From the first time I said Cyrus was coming, 16 I did not do it in secret. 16 When he comes, I will be there." 16 The Lord and King has filled me with his Spirit. 16 People of Israel, he has sent me to you.
Your family would be like the sand. 19 Your children after you would be as many as the grains of sand by the sea. 19 It would be impossible to count them. 19 I would always accept the members of your family line. 19 They would never be cut off or destroyed."
People of Israel, leave Babylon! 20 Hurry up and get away from the Babylonians! 20 Here is what I want you to announce. 20 Make it known with shouts of joy. 20 Send the news out from one end of the earth to the other. 20 Say, "The Lord has set Jacob's people free. 20 They are his servants."
"There is no peace for those who are evil," says the Lord.
