The Lord Answers Isaiah's Prayer
The Lord says, "I made myself known to those who were not asking for me. 1 I was found by those who were not trying to find me. 1 I spoke to a nation that did not pray to me. 1 'Here I am,' I said. 'Here I am.'
I will punish them for their sins 7 and the sins of their people before them," 7 says the Lord. 7 "They burned sacrifices on the mountains. 7 They disobeyed me by worshiping other gods on the hills. 7 So I will really punish them 7 for all of the sins they have committed."
The Lord says, 8 "Sometimes juice is still left in grapes that have been crushed. 8 So people say, 'Don't destroy them. 8 Some good juice is still left in them.' 8 That is what I will do for the good of those who serve me. 8 I will not destroy all of my people.
"But some of you have deserted me. 11 You no longer worship on my holy mountain of Zion. 11 You spread a table for the god that is called Good Fortune. 11 You offer bowls of mixed wine to the god named Fate.
So I will make it your fate to be killed with swords. 12 Each of you will die a horrible death. 12 That is because I called out to you, but you did not answer me. 12 I spoke to you, but you did not listen. 12 You did what is evil in my sight. 12 You chose to do what does not please me."
So the Lord and King says, 13 "Those who serve me will have food to eat. 13 But you will be hungry. 13 My servants will have plenty to drink. 13 But you will be thirsty. 13 Those who serve me will be full of joy. 13 But you will be put to shame.
They will ask me to bless their land. 16 They will do it in my name. 16 I am the God of truth. 16 They will take oaths and make promises in their land. 16 They will do it in my name. 16 I am the God of truth. 16 The troubles of the past will be forgotten. 16 They will be hidden from my eyes.
The Lord Will Create New Heavens and a New Earth
"Babies in Jerusalem will no longer 20 live only a few days. 20 Old people will not fail 20 to live for a very long time. 20 Those who live to the age of 100 20 will be thought of as still being young when they die. 20 Those who die before they are 100 20 will be considered as having been under God's curse.
They will no longer build houses 22 only to have others live in them. 22 They will no longer plant crops 22 only to have others eat them. 22 My people will live to be as old as trees. 22 My chosen ones will enjoy for a long time 22 the things they have worked for.
Wolves and lambs will eat together. 25 Lions will eat straw like oxen. 25 Serpents will not bite anyone. 25 They will eat nothing but dust. 25 None of those animals will harm or destroy 25 anything or anyone on my holy mountain of Zion," 25 says the Lord.
