Proverbs 14

A wise woman builds her house. 1 But a foolish woman tears hers down with her own hands.

Those who are honest have respect for the Lord. 2 But those whose paths are crooked hate him.

Foolish people are punished for what they say. 3 But the things wise people say keep them safe.

Where there are no oxen, the feed box is empty. 4 But a strong ox brings in a great harvest.

An honest witness does not lie. 5 But a dishonest witness pours out lies.

Those who make fun of others look for wisdom and don't find it. 6 But knowledge comes easily to those who understand what is right.

Stay away from foolish people. 7 You won't find knowledge in what they say.

People are wise and understanding when they think about the way they live. 8 But people are foolish when their foolish ways trick them.

Foolish people laugh at making things right when they sin. 9 But honest people try to do the right thing.

Each heart knows its own sadness. 10 And no one else can share its joy.

The houses of sinners will be destroyed. 11 But the tents of honest people will stand firm.

There is a way that may seem right to you. 12 But in the end it leads to death.

Even when you laugh, your heart can be hurting. 13 And your joy can end in sadness.

Those who aren't faithful will be paid back 14 for what they've done. 14 And good people will receive rewards 14 for how they've lived.

Childish people believe anything. 15 But wise people think about how they live.

Wise people have respect for the Lord and avoid evil. 16 But foolish people get mad and are thoughtless.

People who get angry quickly do foolish things. 17 And people who are tricky are hated.

Childish people act in keeping with their foolish ways. 18 But knowledge makes wise people feel like kings.

Evil people will bow down in front of good people. 19 And those who do wrong will bow down at the gates of those who do right.

Poor people are avoided even by their neighbors. 20 But rich people have many friends.

Those who hate their neighbors commit sin. 21 But blessed are people who are kind to those in need.

Those who plan evil go down the wrong path. 22 But those who plan good find love and truth.

All hard work pays off. 23 But if all you do is talk, you will be poor.

The wealth of wise people is their crown. 24 But the foolish ways of foolish people lead to what is foolish.

An honest witness saves lives. 25 But a dishonest witness tells lies.

Those who show respect for the Lord have a strong tower. 26 It will be a safe place for their children.

Respect for the Lord is like a fountain that gives life. 27 It turns you away from the jaws of death.

A large population is a king's glory. 28 But a prince without followers is destroyed.

Those who are patient have great understanding. 29 But those who get angry quickly show how foolish they are.

A peaceful heart gives life to the body. 30 But jealousy rots the bones.

Anyone who crushes poor people makes fun of their Maker. 31 But anyone who is kind to those in need honors God.

When trouble comes, sinners are brought down. 32 But godly people have a safe place even when they die.

Wisdom rests in the hearts of those who understand what is right. 33 And even among foolish people she makes herself known.

Doing what is right lifts people up. 34 But sin brings shame to any nation.

A king is pleased with a wise servant. 35 But a servant who is full of shame invites the king's anger.
