Praise to the Lord
O Lord, you are my God; 1 I will exalt you and praise your name, 1 for in perfect faithfulness 1 you have done marvelous things, 1 things planned long ago.
You have made the city a heap of rubble, 2 the fortified town a ruin, 2 the foreigners' stronghold a city no more; 2 it will never be rebuilt.
Therefore strong peoples will honor you; 3 cities of ruthless nations will revere you.
You have been a refuge for the poor, 4 a refuge for the needy in his distress, 4 a shelter from the storm 4 and a shade from the heat. 4 For the breath of the ruthless 4 is like a storm driving against a wall 5 and like the heat of the desert. 5 You silence the uproar of foreigners; 5 as heat is reduced by the shadow of a cloud, 5 so the song of the ruthless is stilled.
On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare 6 a feast of rich food for all peoples, 6 a banquet of aged wine— 6 the best of meats and the finest of wines.
On this mountain he will destroy 7 the shroud that enfolds all peoples, 7 the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. 8 The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears 8 from all faces; 8 he will remove the disgrace of his people 8 from all the earth. 8 The Lord has spoken.
In that day they will say, 9 "Surely this is our God; 9 we trusted in him, and he saved us. 9 This is the Lord, we trusted in him; 9 let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation."
The hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain; 10 but Moab will be trampled under him 10 as straw is trampled down in the manure.
They will spread out their hands in it, 11 as a swimmer spreads out his hands to swim. 11 God will bring down their pride 11 despite the cleverness[a] of their hands.
He will bring down your high fortified walls 12 and lay them low; 12 he will bring them down to the ground, 12 to the very dust.
