1 1 A psalm. A song. For the dedication of the temple.[a] Of David.
I will exalt you, O Lord, 1 for you lifted me out of the depths 1 and did not let my enemies gloat over me.
O Lord my God, I called to you for help 2 and you healed me.
O Lord, you brought me up from the grave[b]; 3 you spared me from going down into the pit.
Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; 4 praise his holy name.
For his anger lasts only a moment, 5 but his favor lasts a lifetime; 5 weeping may remain for a night, 5 but rejoicing comes in the morning.
When I felt secure, I said, 6 "I will never be shaken."
O Lord, when you favored me, 7 you made my mountain[c] stand firm; 7 but when you hid your face, 7 I was dismayed.
To you, O Lord, I called; 8 to the Lord I cried for mercy:
"What gain is there in my destruction,[d] 9 in my going down into the pit? 9 Will the dust praise you? 9 Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me; 10 O Lord, be my help."
You turned my wailing into dancing; 11 you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. 12 O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.
