Psalms 143

1 1 A psalm of David.

Lord, hear my prayer, 1 listen to my cry for mercy; 1 in your faithfulness and righteousness 1 come to my relief.

Do not bring your servant into judgment, 2 for no one living is righteous before you.

The enemy pursues me, 3 he crushes me to the ground; 3 he makes me dwell in the darkness 3 like those long dead.

So my spirit grows faint within me; 4 my heart within me is dismayed.

I remember the days of long ago; 5 I meditate on all your works 5 and consider what your hands have done.

I spread out my hands to you; 6 I thirst for you like a parched land.[a]

Answer me quickly, Lord; 7 my spirit fails. 7 Do not hide your face from me 7 or I will be like those who go down to the pit.

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, 8 for I have put my trust in you. 8 Show me the way I should go, 8 for to you I entrust my life.

Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, 9 for I hide myself in you.

Teach me to do your will, 10 for you are my God; 10 may your good Spirit 10 lead me on level ground.

For your name's sake, Lord, preserve my life; 11 in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble.

In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; 12 destroy all my foes, 12 for I am your servant.
