Psalms 34

[a]

1 1 Of David. When he pretended to be insane before Abimelek, who drove him away, and he left. 1 +034:1-22 is numbered 34:2-23 in Hebrew texts.+1

I will extol the Lord at all times; 1 his praise will always be on my lips.

I will glory in the Lord; 2 let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

Glorify the Lord with me; 3 let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; 4 he delivered me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant; 5 their faces are never covered with shame.

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; 6 he saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, 7 and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good; 8 blessed are those who take refuge in him.

Fear the Lord, you his holy people, 9 for those who fear him lack nothing.

The lions may grow weak and hungry, 10 but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Come, my children, listen to me; 11 I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Whoever of you loves life 12 and desires to see many good days,

keep your tongue from evil 13 and your lips from telling lies.

Turn from evil and do good; 14 seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous 15 and his ears are attentive to their cry.

The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, 16 to blot out their name from the earth.

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; 17 he delivers them from all their troubles.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted 18 and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

The righteous may have many troubles, 19 but the Lord delivers them from them all;

he protects all their bones, 20 not one of them will be broken.

Evil will slay the wicked; 21 the foes of the righteous will be condemned.

The Lord redeems his servants; 22 no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
