Psalms 52

1 1 For the director of music. A maskil[a] of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: "David has gone to the house of Ahimelek." 1 +052:1-9 is numbered 52:3-11 in Hebrew texts.+1

Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero? 1 Why do you boast all day long, 1 you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?

You who practice deceit, 2 your tongue plots destruction; 2 it is like a sharpened razor.

You love evil rather than good, 3 falsehood rather than speaking the truth.[b]

You love every harmful word, 4 you deceitful tongue!

Surely God will bring you down to everlasting ruin: 5 He will snatch you up and pluck you from your tent; 5 he will uproot you from the land of the living.

The righteous will see and fear; 6 they will laugh at you, saying,

"Here now is the one 7 who did not make God his stronghold 7 but trusted in his great wealth 7 and grew strong by destroying others!"

But I am like an olive tree 8 flourishing in the house of God; 8 I trust in God's unfailing love 8 for ever and ever.

For what you have done I will always praise you 9 in the presence of your faithful people. 9 And I will hope in your name, 9 for your name is good.
