1 1 A shiggaion[a] of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjamite. 1 +07:1-17 is numbered 7:2-18 in Hebrew texts.+1
Lord my God, I take refuge in you; 1 save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
or they will tear me apart like a lion 2 and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
Lord my God, if I have done this 3 and there is guilt on my hands—
if I have repaid my ally with evil 4 or without cause have robbed my foe—
then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; 5 let him trample my life to the ground 5 and make me sleep in the dust.[b]
Arise, Lord, in your anger; 6 rise up against the rage of my enemies. 6 Awake, my God; decree justice.
Let the assembled peoples gather around you, 7 while you sit enthroned over them on high. 8 Let the Lord judge the peoples. 8 Vindicate me, Lord, according to my righteousness, 8 according to my integrity, O Most High.
Bring to an end the violence of the wicked 9 and make the righteous secure— 9 you, the righteous God 9 who probes minds and hearts.
My shield[c] is God Most High, 10 who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge, 11 a God who displays his wrath every day.
If he does not relent, 12 he[d] will sharpen his sword; 12 he will bend and string his bow.
He has prepared his deadly weapons; 13 he makes ready his flaming arrows.
Those who are pregnant with evil 14 conceive trouble and give birth to disillusionment.
Those who dig a hole and scoop it out 15 fall into the pit they have made.
The trouble they cause recoils on them; 16 their violence comes down on their own heads.
I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness; 17 I will sing the praises of the name of the Lord Most High.
