About James
  • Education: James McCulle earned the B.A. Degree from Southern Illinois University, with a major in speech; the Master of Divinity dehgree form Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry Degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary; with a major in preaching.
  • Experience: Dr. McCullen was ordained to preach in 1960. He has pastored churches in Missouri, Illinois, Florida, Texas, California, and West Virginia. His longest pastorate was 12 years in Mtn. View Missouri.
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: Please evaluate my sermons with an open Bible. See if I help you understand the scripture.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: A father came home from work and wanted to read an important news story of the day. His little girl wanted to set on his lap, so he tore out a page of the new paper. There was a picture of the world on one page so he tore it into puzzle parts. He told his daughter to put the world puzzle together, and then he would hold her on his lap and talk to her. She came back very soon with the puzzle put together. He was amazed, and said I did not know you knew the shape of the world. She said before you tore the paper I saw a picture of Jesus on the other side, and I knew if I got Jesus right the world would be alright.
  • Family: James is married to Christa, and they have two daughters, two sons-in-law, and eight grandchildren.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: My Mom liked my sermons and was very proud of me and them. When at 20 years of age I told her God was calling me to preach she said well I prayed ever since you were five that He would. I asked her why she never told me, and she said because I wanted it to be God’s call, and not mine.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: She is my greatest critic, and strongest supporter. She really likes to hear me preach, but occasionally says "you lost me today."
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: When people hear you preach; make sure when they get home they will remember what you said from the scripture text I remember being taught to really preach the scriptures. In my opinion many preachers take a text and then depart from it. My goal for most sermons is to make every point and subpoint an extetion, and explanation of the text.
  • Books that have had an impact: A book on prayer titled "How To Pray by Ronnie Floyd had a profound affect on my personal prayer life. The book titled the Adversary by _________________ also made quit an impression on my spiritual life.
  • Hobbies: Dr McCullen is an avid baseball fan, and his favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals. He does go out on the golf course, but he does not call it playing golf except on special days.
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Jesus is the answer, In Him all things come together for good.
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: When baptizing during the morning worship service the wadders leaked, and the front of my paints got wet. I came around to the front and no one noticed until while preaching I step in front of the pulpit. People laughed, and I had to make an explanation.
  • What I want on my tombstone: He Preached Jesus
