If I Were the Devil
If I were the prince of darkness, I’d want to engulf the world in darkness, and I’d have a third of its real estate, and I’d have four-fifths of its population, but I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree. THEE. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first. I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve. DO AS YOU PLEASE. To the young, I would whisper that the Bible is a myth, I would convince them that man created God, instead of the other way around. I would confide that what’s bad is good, and what’s good is square. And the old, I would teach to pray, after me, "our father, which is in Washington." And then I’d get organized. I’d educate authors in how to make lewd literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies and vice versa. I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could; I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.
If I were the devil I’d soon have families that war with themselves, churches that war with themselves, and nations that war with themselves, until each in its turn was consumed, and with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.
If I were the devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions, just let them run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every school house door.
Within a decade I’d have prisons overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography. Soon I could evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, and then from the houses of Congress. And in His own churches, I would substitute psychology for religion, and deify science. I would lure priest and pastors into misusing boys and girls, and church money.
If I were the devil, I’d make the symbol of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas, a bottle. And what’ll you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich. I would caution against extremes, in hard work, in patriotism, and in moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is old fashioned, that swinging is more fun. That what you see on TV is the way to be, and thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure.
In other words, If I were the devil, I’d just keep right on doing what he’s doing.

Oswald Chambers wrote, "If the Bible agreed with modern science, the Bible would soon be out of date." The Bible is the trustworthy Word of God. And the Bible tells us that God created mankind.
C. T. Schwarze has written a thesis called The Bible and Science on the Everlasting Fire, in which he seeks to prove the validity of the Lake of Fire. As an example, he uses the existence of midget or white dwarf stars. He points out the fact that there is general agreement among scientist that the temperature at or near the center of stars is between 25 million and 30 million degrees Fahrenheit! (J. Dwight Pentecost, Things To Come: published by Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, Michigan, pg. 560). He further points out that these stars are so dense that they are about 5000 times smaller than would be expected for their mass. Because of the tremendous heat, everything is turned into gasses. However, due to the greatness of the pressure, these gasses become compressed to the consistency of a liquid (Ibid, pg. 560). These stars are for all practical purposes, lakes of fire.
FOR GOODNESS SAKE
"Starting next year, high school and college students in Thailand will reportedly be graded not just on academics, but on goodness as well. Concerned that the competitive education system puts too much emphasis on materialism and not enough on morality, officials told the Associated Press that they have a plan to record students community service and emotional quotients.
Critics in Thailand say goodness is too abstract to assess fairly. For the same reason, this kind of proposal wouldnt get very far here.
Thats not to say there arent plenty of folks in the US who believe young people are searching for some goodness guideposts.

The following incident is vouched for by a Church of England clergyman who knew all the circumstances.
A young woman, who had been brought up in a Christian home and who had often had very serious convictions in regard to the importance of coming to Christ, chose instead to take the way of the world. Much against the wishes of her godly mother, she insisted on keeping company with a wild, hilarious crowd, who lived only for the passing moment and tried to forget the things of eternity. Again and again she was pleaded with to turn to Christ, but she persistently refused to heed the admonitions addressed to her.
Finally, she was taken with a very serious illness. All that medical science could do for her was done in order to bring about her recovery, but it soon became evident that the case was hopeless and death was staring her in the face. Still she was hard and obdurate when urged to turn to God in repentance and take the lost sinners place and trust the lost sinners Saviour.
One night she awoke suddenly out of a sound sleep, a frightened look in her eyes, and asked excitedly, Mother, what is Ezekiel 7:8,9? Her mother said, What do you mean, my dear?
She replied that she had had a most vivid dream. She thought there was a Presence in the room, who very solemnly said to her, Read Ezekiel 7:8,9. Not recalling the verses in question, the mother reached for a Bible. As she opened it, her heart sank as she saw the words, but she read them aloud to the dying girl:
Now I will shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee according to thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations. And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the Lord that smiteth.
The poor sufferer, with a look of horror on her face, sank back on the pillow, utterly exhausted, and in a few moments she was in eternity. Once more it had been demonstrated that grace rejected brings judgment at last.

What if your science professor announces that your first experiment will involve studying the properties of acids. She places a 500 ML Pyrex beaker containing clear liquid on the lab table and says, "This is sulfuric acid." In response to her explanation, imagine your lab partner, Jim blurts out, "I don’t believe this is sulfuric acid. It looks like water to me." Jim, you discover, is so sincere about his belief that the Pyrex beaker contains water, that he decides to drink it. What will happen to Jim? Despite his sincerity, Jim’s belief that the beaker contained water did not change the nature of its contents. He may believe with all of his heart that the beaker only contains water but the acid will still kill him. One may be sincere and yet sincerly wrong.
The Kingdom of Ebla was about 300 miles southwest of Haran and Abram would have passed through it on his journey to Canaan. The Ebla Kingdom was unknown to history until it was discovered in 1968 by Archaeologists and Professor Paolo Matthiae of the University of Rome. In 1975 the archives of the kingdom’s history was found. 17,000 clay written tablets were found in 1975 and another 1600 the following year. Science has dated this find at 2250 BC, which is in the same time frame as Abram’s life. Critics of the Bible often argue that scripture was written later in history. Some of the more liberal scholars claim the Bible only dates back to a few centuries before Christ. They make these claims in spite of the fact that archaeological finds provide a continuous flow of support to the biblical accounts. Cities, events and people not found in any known document are described in the scriptures. When these cities are found, it gives credibility to the scripture.
Teens Read: According to a poll conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates for the National Education Association, teens rate reading higher in importance in terms of its impact on their future success than they do math, writing, science, and even computers. The survey asked 12-18-year-olds about their literary proclivities, interests, and abilities. In ranking the reasons why they enjoy reading, they cite they can learn, keep up-to-date, and get information (17%), find entertainment (18%). In fact, 87% of all teens say they find reading relaxing; 85% view it as rewarding and satisfying; and 79% consider it stimulating and exciting. And while 51% think reading is hard work and challenging, only 30% find it boring, dull, or old-fashioned. 41% say theyve read more than 15 books during the past year, almost half of which were for their own pleasure. An additional 38% say they read 6-10 books this past year. 30% of girls spend time reading books every day, compared with 19% of boys. Teens prefer fiction to nonfiction by more than 2-to-1. The most popular books recount stories about people their own age (27%), followed by books about sports and athletes (26%). 24% prefer myst...
The teacher of the earth science class was lecturing on map reading.
After explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees and minutes the teacher asked,
"Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees, 4 minutes north latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east longitude . . .?"
After a confused silence, a voice volunteered,
"I guess youd be eating alone."

George Bernard Shaw is perhaps most renowned as a free thinker and liberal philosopher. In his last writings we read, The science to which I pinned my faith is bankrupt. Its counsels, which should have established the millennium, led, instead, directly to the suicide of Europe. I believed them once. In their name I helped to destroy the faith of millions of worshippers in the temples of a thousand creeds. And now they look at me and witness the great tragedy of an atheist who has lost his faith.
