“Too Big To Miss”
The story’s told in the Bible about a mighty king. And how when he was just a little boy he played around with a sling. Well he got up early one morning and before the sun had set that day, a nasty ol’ giant had lost his head and his body lay cold on the clay.
When David went out to the battlefield his big brother said, “Stay away! You’ve got no business out here, David, so go back home and play!” David said, “Step aside, boys. I’m gonna take that giant on!” His brother said, “Obey your elders David; get back home where you belong!”
David said, “That giant ain’t gonna make fun of MY God and King! I’m gonna find me five smooth stones and play awhile with my sling! I’m gonna challenge that devil in the Name of the Lord; and when he’s dead I’m gonna take my sword, chop of his head and let the world know that Jehovah is the Lord!”
His brother said, “Listen little David, you ain’t thinkin’ straight. That giant up there’s too big to hit, and your body he will mutilate!” David said, “Listen big brother; I’ve seen worse than this. That giant up there ain’t too big to hit, that giant’s too big to miss!”
Well the rest of the story you all know, I guess it’s history. David took one smooth stone and that giant fell like a tree. So when a giant of trouble gets in your way, you remember what “little David” had to say: “I’ve seen worse than this! That giant up there ain’t too big to hit, that giant’s too big to miss!

There’s an old Indian Fable I heard recently. A water bearer had two large water pots which he carried on either end of a pole slung across his shoulders. One of the pots had a crack in it, so every day as he carried water to his master’s house he arrived with one full pot and one only half full. This went on for two years. One pot was very proud of its accomplishments, while the imperfect pot was embarrassed at its failure. Its distress at being able only to accomplish half of what it had been made to do, resulted in its speaking one day to the water carrier.
"I am so ashamed," the pot said. "Why?" asked the carrier. "Because water leaks out all the way to your master’s house and because of my crack I’ve been only able to deliver half of the load." The water carrier looked kindly at the cracked pot and said, "As we return to my master’s house today, I want you to look at the beautiful flowers along the path."

The web-slinging superhero has gone and done it again! Spiderman 3 opened on May 6, 2007 and on opening night grossed in excess of a staggering M$151 US – and climbing! This movie was different from Spider 1 and 2 in that Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spiderman, was forced to deal with what the overview calls “a strange black entity from another world” (source: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413300/) that tried to bond with Peter Parker. In this strange battle the black entity fights for Parker’s essence (we call it soul) – to turn him into something sinister and diabolical. It grows to the scene where Parker, in a bar brawl, accidentally hits the love of his life, knocking her to the floor. MJ (Mary Jane) looks searchingly at him and asks Peter, “Who are you?” to which he responds, “I don’t know...”

I remember the children in World War II. At the close of the war, the Allied armies gathered up many hungry orphans. They were placed in camps where they were well-fed. Despite excellent care, they slept poorly. They seemed nervous and afraid. Finally, a psychologist came up with the solution. Each child was given a piece of bread to hold after he was put to bed. This particular piece of bread was just to be held--not eaten. The piece of bread produced wonderful results. The children went to bed knowing instinctively they would have food to eat the next day. That guarantee gave the children a restful and contented sleep.
A Committed Christian serves the Lord absolutely. They serve and live by faith in God.

“A Bruise Is Better than A Bite!” 1 Samuel 1:1-8 Key verse(s): 8:“Elkanah here husband would say to her, ‘Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?’”
“Constructive criticism is when I criticize you. Destructive criticism is when you criticize me.” If we could make this clear and plain to everyone we met, all our lives would be so much easier. If people just realized that criticism is applicable to everyone but the person delivering it, it would be a lot easier getting along with folks. Unfortunately, no one seems to grasp this basic concept of human co-existence.
As silly as it sounds, rare is the individual that does not at least think this from time to time. For many of us criticism is one of the hardest things in this life to bear. I know! Comparing the pain of a compound fracture to that of the well-aimed criticism, I would prefer the ache of the break to the sting of the sling. If confessions are appropriate, I must own up. Like most people I try to avoid criticism and I certainly am not the kind of person who goes around seeking it. Reacting to just criticism isn’t fun; but reacting to unjust criticism is even less of a picnic. Since it is so difficult sometimes to differentiate between the two, perhaps avoiding any criticism at all costs is the better path to take.
Unfortunately, life presents us with both types of criticism on a pretty frequent basis. Dealing with the just requires patience and forbearance. Dealing with the unjust requires a deep kind of loving patience and forbearance. Criticism well directed and delivered with care may still cause bruised feelings. But criticism that is unloaded upon us, inflicted and perpetrated on us breaks the skin of our lives and opens gaping wou...

DISCIPLINES: THE DECATHLON
The Olympic decathlon is internationally recognized as the most demanding test of individual athletic ability there is. It is the event that determines the world's greatest all-around athlete.
Originating in a contest held at the 708 B.C. Olympiad to single out Greece's most perfect physician specimen, the modern decathalon requires an athlete to contest ten events in just two grueling days.
He must sprint 100 meters, long jump, heave a 16-pound shot, high jump, race 400 meters, scamper the 110-meter high hurdles, sling the discus, pole-vault, throw the javelin and top off the performance by running 1500 meters (nearly a mile). The sequence is arranged specifically to prevent him from using essentially the same motion twice in succession.
Merely enduring this punishing routine is enough to leave a decathloner quivering with fatique and 12 to 15 pounds lighter through dehydration—but not enough to guarantee him a respectable finish.
The reason: he must achieve top marks under a complicated, 78-page scoring system that is based not only on how well he performs against his opponents in each event but also on how his effort compares with the latest standards for that event.
