He tells how a fly was looking up at a praying mantis, “What are you doing” said the fly. “I’m praying,” said the mantis. “Don’t be stupid, insects don’t pray.” The fly told it. And at that, the Mantis swooped down and grabbed the fly in it’s claws, and straight away the fly began “Our Father, who art in heaven”.

There is a story about the President of Anheiser-Busch who went over to the Vatican for a private audience with the Pope. The meeting went something like this:
“Holy Father, we are prepared to make a donation of $10 million to the church if you would simply replace ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ with
’Give us this day our daily beer.’”
“I’m afraid, that’s not possible, my son.”
“Could you do it for a bigger contribution, say $25 million dollars?”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible, my son.”
“Holy Father, here is my final offer. Change “bread” to “beer:” and I will write you a cheque right now for $100 million dollars.”
The Pope picks up the phone and says: “Cardinal Mancini, how firm is our contract with Pilsbury?”

How much power can people in agreement have? The answer: the power of life and death. During the brutal reign of Joseph Stalin, who murdered 30 million Russians and bought godless communism to Russia, Stalin, let it be known that he planned to murder the Jews of Russia. When the believers in England heard this report, they committed themselves to fasting and prayer for the Jews of Russia. Praying in the spirit, they found the Demonic forces that drove Joseph Stalin. Three weeks later, Joseph Stalin had a brain hemorrhage. 16 gifted brain surgeons worked on him for eight hours, and still Joseph Stalin stepped into eternity, on March 5, 1953, to meet the son of God, a Jewish rabbi from Bethlehem

For years Europeans have told the story about citizens who prepared to crown their king. Crowds lined the streets to see the new king pass in procession. A 12 year old boy began pushing his way through the crowd. He was able to get as far as the guards and tried to get past them too. The guards stopped him and said, “You cannot get through here; don’t you know this man is the king?” The little boy replied, “He may be the king, but he is also my dad” We can approach God’s heavenly thron...

A father was teaching his 3 year old to ask the blessing over her food. After awhile, Jenny was able to say it all by herself. She prayed for all kinds of things and ended it with a big, “Thank You God for the spaghetti.” Then she was ready to eat. She forgot to say, “In Jesus’ Name, Amen.” Her Dad prompted, “In...what?” Jenny was CONFUSED for a second and then she proudly finished--”In tomato sauce, Amen”

In World War II merchant ships were used to take food and supplies across the sea. One day a Father took his son down to the docks to see the boats being unloaded. "Brave men have risked their lives to bring us this precious cargo," he told him. The boy noticed a line painted around each vessel. "What’s that for?" He asked. "To show the people loading the ship how much it’s made to carry," he said. "If they put too much on, the line disappears below the water. The boat will sink. If they put too little inside, it won’t be full enough to do what it was made to do. Each boat is made by its builder to carry just the right amount." God has painted a water line in our lives… He will not give too much to bear… but will allow “too much” to cause us to need His help. Many children enjoy in helping bringing in the groceries from the car. They prefer to carry in the candy and cookies…. But at times Sometimes parents ask (make) them to carry in other items. Sometimes kid reach for items unaware of the weight and if too heavy… say…, “You do this one daddy.” God allows for “things” to get to heavy for us so we can humble ourselves and say, “You do this one daddy.”

A pastor named David Asch often went to the library to study. On a recent trip he saw a car with a bumper sticker was parked in the first space, so it was unmistakable – you saw it the moment you pulled into the parking lot. It confronted you as you walked to the parking lot from the library. The bumper sticker read, in large, loud letters, “Nothing fails like prayer.” Nothing fails like prayer.

WHAT IS "DAILY BREAD"?

Martin Luther wrote in 1529:

"What does daily bread mean? Everything that nourishes our body and meets its needs, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, yard, fields, cattle, money, possessions, a devout spouse, devout children, devout employees, devout and faithful rulers, good government, peace, health, discipline, honor, good friends, faithful neighbors and other things like these."
