Fortuneteller, gazing into crystal ball, to frog: You are going to meet a beautiful young woman. From the moment she sets eyes on you she will have an insatiable desire to know all about you. She will be compelled to get close to you--you’ll fascinate her." Frog: "Where am I? At a singles club?" Fortuneteller: "Biology class."
YOU BELIEVE WHAT?
Between 1976 and 1997, the number of Americans who believed in astrology grew from seventeen percent to thirty-seven percent. During the same period, the percentage of Americans who professed a belief in
reincarnation nearly tripled -- from nine percent to twenty-five percent. And crystal ball makers doubtless are glad to hear that those who put stock in fortune-telling nearly quadrupled -- from four to fourteen percent.

A man stood on the side of the road hitch hiking on a very dark night in the middle of a storm. The night was rolling and no cars passed. The storm was so strong, he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly he saw a car come towards him and stop.
The guy, without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door to realize that nobody was behind the wheel. The car started slowly. The guy looked at the road and saw a curve coming his way.
Scared, he started praying, and begged for his life. He hadn’t come out of shock, when just before he hit the curve, a hand appeared through the window and moved the wheel. The guy, paralyzed in terror, watched how the hand appeared every time before a curve.
The guy gathered strength, got out of the car and ran to the nearest town. Wet and in shock, he ran into a cantina and asked for two shots of tequila, and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he went through. A silence enveloped everybody...
The Devil always fights the church when the church is on the move. Charles Spurgeon used to say that Satan never kicks a dead horse. Satan knew that the church was on the move, so he attacked it. In Acts 2 we read that 3000 people were converted. Then what happened? According to Acts 4, Satan came like a lion and had the apostles threatened. In chapter 5, Satan came like a serpent, influencing Ananias and Sapphira to infect the church with their lying and hypocrisy. If Satan can?t win by persecution from the outside, he will try pollution on the inside. Then Satan came as the accuser in Acts 6. One group of widows accused the other group of widows of taking over. ?We are being neglected,? they said. Satan likes to get the saints to accuse one another. Then according to Acts 12, Satan came as a murderer. James was killed, and Peter was put into prison to be kept for execution.
Something Happens When Churches Pray, W. Wiersbe, p. 81
Two 6 year olds struggled with the problem of the existence of the devil. One boy said, “Oh, there isn’t any devil.” The other, rather upset, said, “What do you mean, there isn’t any devil? It talks about him all the way through the Bible!” the first replied, “Oh that’s not true, you know. It’s just like Santa Claus, the devil turns out to be your dad.”
G. Lewis, Demon Possession, ed. J. Montgomery
For centuries educated and literate persons considered it important to start the day by getting out of bed on the right side. The meaning of the verbal formula, which is now more familiar than the ceremony that produced it, is literal. To get out of bed on the left side was to invite trouble, for the left side (Latin sinister) provided easy access for evil spirits.
Let’s have a little fun together...
-I want each of you to think of a number between 1-9.
-Now multiply that number by nine.
-Add the digits of your answer together (if 35, 3 + 5 = 8).
-Now subtract five.
-Now if A=1, B=2, C=3 etc., what letter is represented by the number you have now?
-Now think of a country beginning with that letter.
-Next think of a mammal beginning with the LAST letter of that country.
-Next think of a fruit beginning with the LAST letter of that animal.
So you all started out with different numbers, and now you’re thinking of a country, an animal and a fruit. Let me see if I can read someone’s mind out there... This doesn’t make much sense... There aren’t many kangaroos living in Denmark who eat oranges, are there?
Were you surprised? Maybe just a little bit amazed?
NOTE: (approx. 98% will have that answer. Only 2% will come up with different answers. Some may have a Koala in Denmark who likes apples. An even smaller number will have picked one of two other “D” countries, like Dominican Republic or Djibouti.)
That’s one of the things I’ve always enjoyed about magic. That sense of surprise — that “How did he do ...
"You have established a new relationship with the powers of darkness. Whatever you were before you were a Christian- straight, horoscope reader, witch, warlock, or satanist- you are now a sworn foe of the legions of hell. Have no delusions about their reality or their hostility, but do not fear them. The God inside you terrifies them. They cannot hurt you, let alone hurt you, but they can still seduce, and they will try. They will also oppose you as you obey Christ. If you play it cool and decide not to be a fanatic about Christianity, you will have no trouble from them. But if you are serious about Christ being your Lord and God, you can expect opposition." Quote from John White, "The Fight."
More than 3,000 fans packed San Francisco’s Masonic
Auditorium. Many had driven for hundreds of miles to
see their idol. Others held up signs reading, "We
Love You John!"
Then the man they came to see strode onto the stage -
- an unlikely superstar, to say the least. As the
Washington Post put it, his New York accent makes him
sound more like a cab driver. And the only artistic
activity listed on his risumi is his affinity for
ballroom dancing. But John Edward is a superstar --
one uniquely suited for our credulous age.
John Edward is America’s most famous medium. His
nightly television show, Crossing Over, is a staple
of the Sci-Fi channel’s prime-time programming. Every
night, more 600,000 American households tune in to
watch Edward and his "guests" -- by which he means
spirits -- minister to the loved ones left behind.
The show is such a success that in August it will be
syndicated nationwide. Then, even those without cable
will be to watch Edward comfort the living by
speaking with the dead.
But it’s not only television. Edward’s autobiography
made the bestseller lists. His live appearances, like
the one at the Masonic Auditorium, are sell-outs, and
there’s a two-year waiting list for personal
Edward isn’t the only medium doing a brisk business
these days. Belief in mediums and spiritualism has
grown markedly in the past decade. Half of all
Americans believe that it’s possible to communicate
with the dead. A third claim to have done so. Just
look at the yellow pages or your newspaper for
advertisements for psychics.
