In the book, “Let Us Break Bread Together” Fred Daniel Gealy writes,
“The word Epiphany is a great Christian word. The grace of God has appeared is the testimony of every page in the New Testament. My eyes have seen God has not just shown himself in the past; nor is his coming simply some far-off divine event. That the one who manifested himself to the fathers is here. The coming one has come. The light shines. And in the presence of this revelation we see ourselves as we are in our true relations to the world, to one another, and to God. In showing himself to us, God shows us ourselves. Light is not to look at but to see by.”
ALL THE DIFFERENCE
All but four of the major world religions are based on mere philosophical propositions. Of the four that are based on personalities rather than philosophies, only Christianity claims an empty tomb for its founder.

THE PROCESS IS THE POINT
Steven Furtick (Founder of Elevation Church) in SUN STAND STILL, p. 195-96:
It's human nature to want to skip straight from the promise to the payoff. Who doesn't want to get right to the good stuff? But the process is invaluable. The process is a time of strengthening. The process is the place where you lay down your pride and learn to rely totally on God. Most impor¬tantly, the process is the way we grow - to know God. And that's really the whole point.
One of my major irritations is when someone spoils the plot of a movie I was planning to see. Because when they tell me that the dude dies at the end, or that the boy gets the girl, or that the team wins the championship, or whatever, it ruins the experi¬ence. See, if I wanted to know just the outcome, I would have read the plot summary on Wikipedia. But that's not the goal when you see a movie. You want to feel tension and suspense. You want to wonder whether the good guy wins or the relationship works out. The plot is the point.
What if the same dynamic that makes the plot the point of movie applies to our relationship with God? Is it possible that the process isn't just a time waster or a commercial break? Have you ever considered that, in the overall scheme of God's design, the process is the point?
If all God wanted to do was get right to the happy ending, you’d be in heaven by now. If His only intention were to make your dreams come true, he'd snap His fingers and your vision would appear out of thin air. But that's not all God wants. And deep down, it's not really all you want either. You want to learn to walk by faith, not by sight. And you can't learn that without walking through periods of complete darkness. The apprehension and gut-level fear you'll feel in these stages may make you turn back and pursue something safer.
Or you can opt for something better. You can embrace the process with audacious faith. Because every big dream has small beginnings. Between the promise and the payoff, there's a process.
And that process is the breeding ground of faith. That process has the potential to draw you closer to Jesus than you've been before.
The process is the point.
JESUS- NOT HATE BUT HOPE
"Jesus.
It’s a little name.
A small word.
Say this little name in public, however, in a way other than an obscenity, and stand back and watch the fireworks.
This little name is like a tiny detonator that triggers a nuclear warhead.
You can say "God," and you won’t get a squeak.
You can say "Our Father/Mother in Heaven," and few will flinch.
You can say "Great Spirit," and people will nod in approval.
You can say "Allah" and you will be deemed tolerant.
But say "Jesus" and just wait for the sonic boom.
Articles will appear in the paper. Reprimands will be posted from the home office. Suits will be threatened by the civil liberties block.
So don’t say Jesus.
Jesus is divisive, and now is a time for unity.
Jesus is an extremist, and that must mean right wing.
Jesus is exclusive, so His name amounts to hate speech.
Keep His name to yourself. Cloister it in your church. Lock it in your prayer closet. Close it between the covers of your Bible. But for God’s sake, don’t voice it in the public square!
It’s immodest. It’s immoral. It’s unloving.
Only one problem.
Jesus is God.
Only one problem.
Jesus alone brings salvation.
Only one problem.
All other gods are nothing.
So speak Hi...
iii. Reference the 60 minutes program and the book Tempting Faith by David Kuo. David was convicted of using the name of the Lord for political and personal gain! His experience with a severe brain tumor and near death experience caused him and his wife to repent of their ways.
1. He makes this quote from his book, “We wildly celebrated George w. Bush’s election, because we knew he was one of us. In the process, however, we were all tempted to lose our priorities. Our faith’s mandate was clear: God was to be first, our families were to be second, and our work was to be third. I regularly got the order wrong, putting politics first and second and relegating God and family to the third spot. Many of us did. That includes many of us in George W. Bush’s White House. There I saw the healthy clash between faith and politics resolved as faith submitted itself to the political throne…I heard the mocking of religious conservative leaders by that staff. I learned that votes were “god” even if getting them meant blaspheming God” (xii, xiii).
2. He adds, “Has this trading Jesus for politics worked? ...the president is a sincere Christian. But our political dreams have hardly come true. Teen pregnancy has hardly ceased. Divorces are as common as ever. More people than ever are eschewing marriage in favor of cohabitation. Abortion is as prevalent as ever. Pornography is everywhere. Gambling is, too…” (xiii). He adds another thought at the end of the book to put everything into perspective: Politicians from John Kennedy to Ronald Reagan have been fond of referring to America as the “shining city on a hill.” It is a beautiful metaphor, and fitting in so many ways. America has been one of the greatest forces for good in world history. But we are not the shining city on the hill. When Jesus used the words “as to Solomon’s temple-the dwelling place of God-in Jerusalem. The ancient historian Josephus described it this way: “The outward face of the Temple in its front wanted nothing that was likely to surprise either men’s minds or their eyes; for it was covered all over with plates of gold or great weight, and, at the first rising of the sun, reflected back a very fiery splendour, and made those who forced themselves to look upon it to turn away their eyes, just as they would have done at the sun’s own rays. The Temple appeared to strangers, when they were at a distance, like a mountain covered with snow…” The shining city on a hill contained the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat of God, not the seat of government. That was sufficient for Jesus; it should be sufficient for us, too” (268).
