Rug Rat Rage: Miriam Feldman wrote about some revealing research by Ron Taffel and Jan Drucker in a recent issue of the Utne Reader. Taffel interviewed a diverse group of 150 5, 6 and 7 year olds and found disturbing levels of anger. Not lethal rage, but rather “casual explo-sive.” Violent media plays a role, but that only happens because kids turn to it to fill the void created by parents too busty to spend time with them. “Today’s children are angry because they feel invisible and ignored by parents who do not hear or see them. They are desperate to be seen and known, rather than scheduled or psychologized. They are craving one-on-one time.”(Explorer 3/27/00)
