On Wednesday of this week we celebrate Veteran’s Day. I want you to stop for just a moment and think about all the freedoms that you have. I want you to think about the lines from the Declaration of Independence that says that we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Blessed Be the Lord
Psalm 68:19-35
John Shearhart
November 8, 2009

Introduction
Psalm 68:19-35 begins and ends with the command “blessed be the Lord” or “blessed be God.” To bless someone is to exalt, praise, or approve of him.

The commands to bless God in this Psalm serve as bookends to seven great reasons for doing so.

This morning I want to look at these seven reasons in a sermon I am calling…

Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery and wrote him off as dead. Twenty years later they go to Egypt during a famine to buy food. INTRO: Today we look closely at another Biblical role model. Once again we discover that even well known role models in Scripture have their ups and downs. We recently studied this fact in the life of Elijah and David. Now we see Jonah as another role model who feels down. Jonah is really at the very top of God’s success. Introduction
In 1871, tragedy struck Chicago as fire ravaged the city. When it was all over, 300 people were dead and 100,000 were homeless. Horatio Gates Spafford was one of those who tried to help the people of the city get back on their feet. A lawyer who had invested much of his money into the downtown Chicago real estate, he’d lost a great deal to the fire. And his one son (he had four daughters) had died about the same time. I used to think that I was the only Kevin Ruffcorn in the United States and perhaps the world. Several years ago, to my surprise, I learned that there was another Kevin Ruffcorn in Texas. About that same time I received a copy of the Ruffcorn genealogy and discovered that my family was much bigger than I had thought. Intro:	Most of us would think the ideas of buffeting and blessing are totally foreign to one another. It’s difficult to wrap our limited insight around the biblical idea that the former could actually produce the latter. As a matter of fact, the average Christian probably isn’t the least bit concerned with understanding such a concept.

Intro: This entire Psalm is about the brevity of life. The Psalmist pauses in the midst of a busy existence and begins to meditate on his life, his Lord, and the length of his days. As he sits quietly, he begins to consider how short life is; furthermore, he considers how important it is for man to know how short life is (v. 4-7). It is in the brevity of life that he discovers that there is no real hope outside of the Lord, for he is eternal. He begins to call on G .....

You know, I’m not extremely political. Not that I don’t have political convictions; I do. But I am not actively participating in politics. I consider myself to be a conservative and I vote conservatively and encourage others to do the same, but I’m not actively political. I know what our nation needs in order for it to regain its position of favor in the world – it needs a resto .....

You Anoint My Head With Oil
Psalms 23

When we think of Psalm 23, a Psalm that I am sure we have all heard and may even be able to recite from memory, we understand it to be a Psalm that brings us great promises from God.

First, of all that our Lord is our shepherd and we will not be in want. He will always provide.

Second, He brings us peace and refuge.

Third, He keeps us on the straight and narrow, through our obedience and surrender to His will.

INTRODUCTION
This weekend past saw the celebration of Independence Day, a time we take to celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we enjoy in our republic. As it happens I am currently in a philosophy class and I found myself part of a discussion about those freedoms and the rights of individuals to exercise those freedoms. I won’t drag you through all the details but ultimately the discussion reached the p .....

1. We must suffer PERSECUTION.

Matt. 5: 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

All Souls Day
Caritas in Veritate

When God, at the exactly perfect moment in human history, wanted to take man’s development to the final level, He did so, and continues to do so, by a selfless act of gift. While we were yet sinners he came to us, became one of us, and died for us. He rose for us, so that by being in solidarity with Him we could rise body and soul on the last day to be one with Him forever. That, I submit, is the ultimate human development. This All So .....
