A PROPER PERSPECTIVE ON THANKSGIVING by Steve Malone; Ephesians 5:19-20

The following proclamation was made by Governor Bradford in 1623, 3 years after the Pilgrims settled at Plymouth;

To all ye Pilgrims, Inasmuch as the great father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, squashes and garden vegetables, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, To view the rest of this sermon click here:

FIVE KERNELS OF CORN by Bruce Howell; Psalms 103:1-13

The Pilgrim fathers who landed at Plymouth Rock over 300 years ago knew nothing of the affluent times which you and I enjoy today in this great country of ours. The next time you and I are tempted to complain about inflation and the state of our economy, remember the following:

During that first long winter at Plymouth Colony, seven times as many graves ...

THANKSGIVING - GRATEFUL TO WHOM, MY DEAR? by Melvin Newland;

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

May I call your attention this morning to our scripture text which is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. It is a tremendous passage for Thanksgiving. Here is what it says, "Be joyful always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Now you need to realize that it doesn't say, "give thanks FOR all circumstances,"

THANK YOU GOD! by Steve Malone; Psalms 18:1-50

On Sept 16, 1620 2 ships set sail from Plymouth England, The Speedwell and the Mayflower. The Speedwell encountered much difficulty as they began their journey springing many leaks in the ship. So when the 2 ships went to Port in Plymouth England, the Speedwell decided to go no further and 42 passengers from the Speedwell joined the 60 passengers and 30 crew members aboard ...

GIVING THANKS IN UNCERTAIN TIMES by Kenneth Sauer; Psalms 118:1-17

Thursday is Thanksgiving....boy it's hard to believe how fast time flies! It seems like yesterday that my family and I were spending the Thanksgiving holidays at my mother-in-laws house...I can't believe it's been a year! A year since they were still trying to figure-out who had won the Presidential election....a year since all that we heard on the news was talk of chads and hanging chads.... Now a year

MATTHEW HENRY'S DIARY ENTRY

People who are truly thankful don't complain, they find a reason to be grateful. Matthew Henry, who wrote a commentary on every book of the Bible, was once robbed. The thieves took everything of value that he had. Later that evening he wrote in his diary these words, "I am thankful that during these years I have never been robbed before. Also, even though they took my money, they did not take my life. Although they took all I had, it was not much. Finally, I am grateful that it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed."

NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD

Too often our gratitude is dependent upon the circumstances of life. A beautiful hymn was written by Martin Rinkart during the thirty-year war to help us look beyond our circumstances and see the hand of God. Rinkart was a pastor in Saxony, Germany as the turbulent years of the war dragged on. For a time he was the only pastor in his town. His pastoral duties caused him to preside at nearly 4500 burials in 1637 alone. In the context of this sad situation and these unfavorable circumstances he penned the words to Now Thank We All Our God. It is a hymn of unconditional gratitude to God.

Now thank we all our God

With Heart, hands, and voices

Who wondrous things has done

In whom his world rejoices

Thankful people don't have to have everything going their way to rejoice.

THANKSGIVING HUMOR

A mother turkey was disappointed to hear that her teenage son had gotten into trouble and had been locked in jail. She fumed all the way to bail him out. When she finally saw her son, she gave him a terrible lecture. "If your father knew what you had just done, he would roll over in his gravy."

SIGNS YOU'VE EATEN TOO MUCH AT THANKSGIVING

The Gravy Boat your wife set out is a actual 12' boat.

On Friday, you set off three seismographs on your morning jog.

Pricking your finger for a blood test only yields gravy.

That rash on your stomach turns out to be steering wheel burn.

Representatives from the Butterball Hall of Fame have called twice.

I WILL TELL YOUR NAME

Roland Allen tells about a veteran missionary who came up to him one day after he had delivered his sermon. The missionary introduced himself & said, "I was a medical missionary for many years in India. And I served in a region where there was progressive blindness. People were born with healthy vision, but there was something in that area that caused people to lose their sight as they matured."

But this missionary had developed a process, which would arrest progressive blindness. So people came to him & he performed his operation, & they would leave realizing that they would have become blind, but now they were going to be able to see for the rest of their lives.

He said that they never said, "Thank you," because that phrase was not in their dialect. Instead, they spoke a word that meant, "I will tell your name." Wherever they went, they would tell the name of the missionary who had cured their blindness. They had received something so wonderful that they eagerly proclaimed it.
