A
RECIPE FOR SUCCESSFUL PARENTING by John Hamby:
Proverbs 22: 6
I made
a startling discovery soon after our child was born, they do not come with an
instruction manual. The way that we dealt with
this
emergency was to call our moms, with questions that went something like this,
"Mom, she's doing so and so. Is
she supposed to
do
that? Most parents feel a little like
the story I heard...

PARENTING
BY PAGER by James Wilson: Job 1:5
What do
you do when there's not enough time to do everything?
Have
you ever tried to be two places at the same time? In many ways, technology is
making that possible. Some parents are setting
up a
baby cam in the nursery so grandparents can log on the Internet and watch their
grandchild...

PARENTING
IN PERILOUS TIMES by Bill Harper:
Judges 13:1-25
Radio
personality Paul Harvey tells the story of how Eskimo kill wolves.
First
the Eskimo coats his knife blade with animal blood and allows it to freeze.
Then he adds another layer of blood, and another,
until
the blade is completely concealed by frozen blood. Next, the hunter fixes his knife in the ground with the...

HEY!
IT'S A MISSION FIELD OUT THERE by Ange LaCivita: Proverbs 22:6
I want
to first start off with something that I found. I want to read it to you about how I feel about what I do for
God. It's
entitled
"I Minister to Children:"
I am a
minister. I minister to the largest mission field in the world. I minister to
children. My calling is sure, my
challenge is
big, my
vision is clear. My desire is...

MOTHERING
GODLY CHILDREN IN A GODLESS SOCIETY by A. Todd Coget:
Deuteronomy
6:1-25
A
four-year-old and a six-year-old presented their mom with a houseplant.
They had
used their own money to buy it and she was thrilled.
The
older of them said with a sad face, "There was a bouquet at the flower
shop that we wanted to give you. It was real pretty but
it was
too expensive. It had a...

A CHILD
OR A PIG
A good
Father does not give everything the child asks for. A Danish proverb notes,
"Give to a pig when it grunts and a child when
he
cries, and you will have a fine pig and a bad child." God is raising
children, not pigs.

MY, HOW
WE CHANGE
The
Minneola Messenger printed an article entitled "Children and Their
Changing Attitude Towards Their Parents:"
Age 4:
"My parents can do anything"
Age 8:
"There might be one or two things they don't know."
Age 12:
"Naturally, my parents don't understand."
Age 14:
"I never realized how hopelessly old fashioned they are."
Age 21:
"You would expect them to feel that way; they are out of date."
Age 25:
"They come up with a good idea now and then."
Age 30:
"I wonder what Mom and Dad think I should do?"
Age 40:
"Let's be patient until we discuss it with our parents."
Age 50:
"What would Mom and Dad have thought about it?"
Age 60:
"I wish I could talk it over with them one more time."

WHERE
IS DAD?
I
remembered a story Pastor Dan Rhodes told me. Dan is the pastor of two rural
churches in Colorado and stays busy. Like most
pastors,
he has plenty to do. But by being the
pastor of two churches, he has twice the committee meetings, and twice the
worship
services.
As Dan
tells the story, his daughter's third grade teacher requested a parent teacher
conference with him. His wife usually took
care of
those conferences, but the teacher wanted to see him, not his wife.
At her
insistence, he made an appointment to drop by the school in the afternoon.
"I wanted you to see this drawing your daughter
made of
your family." She said.
Dan
looked at the drawing and asked, "Where am I?" "That's why I
called you down here today," the teacher responded, "I asked your
daughter
the same question and she said you're never home so she left you out of the
picture."

A
SELFISH NATURE
Every
baby starts life as a little savage. He is completely selfish and
self-centered. He wants what he wants when he wants it -
his
bottle, his mother's attention, his playmate's toy, his uncle's watch. Deny him
these once, and he seethes with rage and
aggressiveness,
which would be murderous were he not so helpless. He is, in fact, dirty. He has
no morals, no knowledge, no skills.
This
means that all children - not just certain children - are born delinquent. If
permitted to continue in the self-centered world
of his
infancy, given free reign to his impulsive actions to satisfy his wants, every
child would grow up a criminal - a thief, a
killer,
or a rapist.

I'VE
GOT PLANS
Last
year, Ken Griffey, Jr. chose not to attend "The Players Choice
Awards" to receive the "Player of the Decade" award. Junior
beat
out three time MVP winner Barry Bonds and four time Cy Young Award winner, Greg
Maddux for the honor.
The
award is a big deal. He joins the ranks of baseball greats Wagner, Cobb, Ruth,
Foxx, Williams, Mantle, Mays, Rose, and Schmidt.
Why
didn't he go?
Trey,
his 5-year-old son had a baseball game that night--his first, and Junior didn't
want to miss it.
