Not many people claim they can live up to Jesus' teaching. So why did he preach the things he preached? In this provocative interview, Pastor Andrew Farley suggests one possible answer to the difficulty of Jesus' teachings. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, this topic is rich with preaching possibilities for your congregation. How would you approach this topic?

Dr. Andrew Farley is senior pastor of Ecclesia: Church Without Religion, a non-denominational, evangelical church that has resided on the high plains of west Texas. He is also the author of The Naked Gospel, God Without Religion, and Heaven is Now. He hosts Andrew Farley LIVE every Sunday at 2pm EST on Sirius XM, 131.

About selling everything...that isn't true. He admonished the rich man to sell everything. But not all. Zacheus decided to give half of his belongings to the poor and perform restitution four fold for anyone who he had cheated. But that does not mean he had to give everything away. Luke 19:1-10.

Bonhoeffer took Christs' teachings to heart in every single aspect of his existence. I believe that you are right David.

Neither the mutual exclusivity between God and religion, which is at the heart of the "new covenant"; nor the non-institutional concept of the "church", a necessarily altruistic term for the divine person of Jesus Christ as "a new way, a living way" in his death on the cross, is "simplistic". Blessings!

simplistic and, I believe, shallow interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount. Read Bonhoeffer's "Cost of Discipleship" for a much better presentation.
