The gloom, despair and oppression so vivid in Isaiah’s day is overshadowed by a new light the prophet sees. This prophet moves from walking in darkness to walking in the light; from oppression to justice; from war to peace. A brighter day is on the way!

The nation of Israel would suffer but a remnant would be saved. God is merciful even in judgment. Assyria would be judged and pay a high penalty for her ill treatment of Israel. Isaiah proclaims a promise of victory.

Israel acted as if God did not see their heart and their attitude. God saw all the meeting and plans with Egypt. God saw the attitude towards His word. How strange that so many people think that they can hide from God.

Before the situation with Sennacherib had been settle, Hezekiah had become very ill. In his weaken condition, Hezekiah received this unsettling message from God’s prophet, Isaiah. "Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live." How does he respond.

The Lord gives us remedy for doubts that creep in about His ability to help or His concern to help when we are in a great crisis. God addresses His people, those redeemed by his grace to look away from their crisis (and doubts about Him) and embrace the facts about Him and the Hope they bring.

After the return of Christ, all those who are a part of God’s kingdom will rejoice. They will be clothed with salvation, belong to God’s redeemed and living in harmony by God’s standard. It must have been simply marvelous for Isaiah to see what God had planned for Judah and Jerusalem.
