BIBLE NUMBER MEANINGS

Today we’ll continue talking about the number FORTY. FORTY stands for; TRIALS, PROBATION AND TESTINGS ~ the number FORTY is found 189 times in our KJ Bible.
Before we begin today I want to say once again, as I have pointed out several times before, I obtained much of this information from Evangelist Ed Vallowe, and I highly recommend his book. I certainly take no credit for the many hours that he surely must have put into this study and other writers as well.
The Bible was written by FORTY different people -- and FORTY pictures probation. The people of the WORLD (four) are under TESTING now, and Gods GRACE (five) is saving all that call on Him for SALVATION (fourteen).
* There are EIGHT periods of testing revealed in the Word of God.
1- Moses was in the mountain of Sinai FORTY days and nights receiving the LAW. Exodus 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
While he was gone these FORTY days the people became impatient and said to Aaron, Exodus 32:1 Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has become of him.
2. This led to the making of the golden calf of Exodus 32:2-7. Thus, Israel fell under these FORTY days of testing. Deuteronomy 9:18 -25
3. After this they were tried or tested FORTY years in the wilderness.
Numbers 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even FORTY days, each day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even FORTY years, and ye shall know my breach of promise. - (you shall know My rejection)

4. FORTY days Elijah spent in Horeb after his experience on Mt. Carmel.
I Kings 19:8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat FORTY days and FORTY nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

5. Jonah prophesied that Nineveh would be destroyed unless they repent.
Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

6 FORTY days Ezekiel laid on his right side to symbolize the FORTY years of Judah’s transgression.
Ezekiel 4:6 And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.
7. The Lord Jesus was tempted FORTY days and nights of the Devil.
Luke 4:1-2 And Jesus, being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being FORTY days tempted of the Devil.
8. FORTY days Jesus was seen of His disciples speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
Acts 1:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion* (crucifixion) by many infallible proofs, being seen of them FORTY days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
Moses spent FORTY years in Egypt; FORTY years in the desert; FORTY years with Israel in the wilderness. These years were times of trials, testing and temptations.--120 years.

The TWELVE spies were commissioned to go and search out the land of Canaan
